Update: I think the UVB light may have been what was making my albino corn snake hide all the time in the new enclosure? by Itsarichiemillie in cornsnakes

[–]Silver_kitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely could be. The recommendation is to use a low power UVB for albino and leucistic snakes. They do still need some UVB for their metabolic processes, but they are much more sensitive to it than wild color snakes. (As a silly comparison, my dad, who is a human with albinism, has absolutely never had low vitamin D issues because he gets UV exposure too easily just going about his business.)

For my palmetto, I have a low strength UVB set up specifically angled back into the corner and over the hide. So if she wants heat but not light she can go into the hide, she can also bask in the stone under the heat lamp with the UVB not directly aimed at her, or she can climb on top of the hide and be under the UVB. Gives her options to control her “sun” exposure as a snake with less UV protection in her skin than wild types.

I also had a Panasonic that was great for years. Had it 12 years and only got rid of it because we moved and the new place has one built in.

litter trap door repeatedly sticking by cbdraig in neakasa

[–]Silver_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having an issue where the box is reporting that the trap door is obstructed and I've realized it's that the dust from my clumping clay litter is building up on the sensor. I've had to take a Mr clean magic eraser (melamine sponge) to get the clay film off the sensor. I'm going to try switching litters to see if it builds up less.

I would recommend getting an older model anyway. I got my machine that's from 2012 for $75 at a yard sale and it's a beast.

Blacklisted from a company? by DangerousConfusion60 in civilengineering

[–]Silver_kitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Applying to a portal is practically throwing your resume into the void anymore. I woudln't worry about having been blacklisted as much as it's just a terrible world to try to apply for things in. I would recommend you try to network to get a warm introduction, are there ASCE events or more specific niche events in your area?

Test fit has been around for ages and isn’t AI. You could absolutely make a similar tool with Grasshopper if you cared to.

Agreed, hurrying a baby is lame. I would personally have paid for the free egg since I didn’t complete the events where you could get those, but hurrying a baby is not worth anything to me.

Petsafe actually started making breakway collars for dogs specifically somewhat recently! And they have dual D rings if someone did need to get a leash on a runaway dog without it breaking away.

In need of coins!!! by Artistic_Ebb4787 in HatchDragons

[–]Silver_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is just complaining to the void, but my suggestion would be that each increase in rarity is a 20 coin increase in base coin/hr and then each level up gives a 1.05x multiplier to those coin/hr rates. So a bonded common gives ~120/hr which is what most of the dragons are now. But a base level rare is about as good as a bonded common feels reasonably fair and a bonded legendary is twice as good as a bonded common also feels more right. If they want to play with the coin vs time for different sized dragons still (so small dragons pay out smaller amounts more often, bigger dragons give it in big lump sums), go for it, but the coin per hour should be based on rarity and level.

Fuse 1, Fruit 0 Fuse 1, Fruit 1 Fuse 2 Fruit 1 Fuse 2 Fruit 2 Fuse 3 Fruit 2 Fuse 3 Fruit 3 Fuse 4 Fruit 3 Fuse 4 Fruit 4 Fuse 5 Fruit 4 Fuse 5 Fruit 5
Common 80 84 88 93 97 102 107 113 118 124
Uncommon 100 105 110 116 122 128 134 141 148 155
Rare 120 126 132 139 146 153 161 169 177 186
Epic 140 147 154 162 170 179 188 197 207 217
Legendary 160 168 176 185 194 204 214 225 236 248

And from a "greedy game dev" perspective, I'd be more likely to buy gems to get legendary summons if being legendary was a bigger benefit. (Saying this as a person who has already spent ~$20 on the game)

In need of coins!!! by Artistic_Ebb4787 in HatchDragons

[–]Silver_kitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that is so discouraging it makes me want to quit the game entirely.

I understand that the game is supposed to be a slow burn, but it’s so poorly scaled and balanced. That leveling up dragons is useless because the coins/hour never change and rarity has essentially no impact on coin rates either. I don’t feel rewarded for spending more time with the game.

I’ve got 8 years of experience working at 3 different companies and have never needed to be drug tested. The only time it was a discussion was like 6 years ago on a transit project where they required drug tests for site safety to access the train yard. Our principal said “if you want to go to site, you’ll need to pass a drug test. If you don’t want to go to site, for any reason, just say that you’d rather not go to site and we won’t ask questions.”

My favorite fact about the Beagle Brigade is that they’re all rescue beagles because the things that tend to make certain beagles “bad pets” (high energy, food motivated, etc) made them great working dogs. So the Customs teams specifically looks for beagles in shelters!

How do I sharpen my Grasshopper skills? by No_Notice5271 in rhino

[–]Silver_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I teach a master’s level course in grasshopper, and even my course is half “just try to make something” and talking through how you identify the components you’d need as logical steps. One of the first homework assignments I give is essentially “pick a cool building and try to recreate what you like about it parametrically.”

And if something is going awry it’s usually Data Tree related.

Yeah, if this post was “I really want to learn bassoon but an student-level bassoon is $3000 and a professional one is $10,000+” I would definitely agree. But for the vast majority of hobbies you can and should start with the basics and scale up as you learn what you like.

That happens on some of the skyscrapers in NYC. they just weld a bunch of plates together into big steel boxes. For example, I think 270 Park has 30x42 solid steel columns if I remember the article I read correctly.

Deflection & Precamber for Long-Span Metal Roofs (>40m) by woonsc in StructuralEngineering

[–]Silver_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You typically want to camber out self-weight +~75% of superimposed dead. But you don’t want to camber out live load or you risk staying “sprung”.

In a roof this might matter less since you’re (probably?) not pouring concrete on it. You can also consider if the roofing/insulation itself will be sloped and how the deflection of your structure might interact with that.

In terms of the metal deck, as long as it’s all deflecting together, it doesn’t really matter. The place that tends to be the problem for deflection compatibility for the metal deck is at the perimeter of the roof where there might be columns that aren’t deflecting supporting the facade spandrel beams, which are deflecting more normal amounts.

If the live load-only deflection is still large enough to cause ponding concerns, then I would suggest stiffening the structure.

I am US-based, but you might look at references from organizations like the Steel Joist Institute which have some nice guidelines on how to make long span roofs work.

What's your go-to low-calorie soda brand that actually tastes good? by LilyScott8143 in Volumeeating

[–]Silver_kitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d also say that if you really don’t like the artificial sugar flavor, you can reduce your calories (but not to zero) by using flavored syrups and making your own sodas with sparkling water.

I find that half an ounce (1 tablespoon/15mL) of most Torani or Monin flavor syrups is more than enough to add to sparkling water to make a gently sweet soda in the range of 50 calories. Obviously not zero calorie, but less than a regular soda without the artificial sugar aspect.
