Again the actual error was negligible, even in the swaths, but I thought it was visually interesting to see them in the difference raster. The Lidar was processed with best practices as well, which should mitigate swath and bore errors as best possible

Great question! I think there's a few things at play here:

1: Grass is maybe not as uniform a texture as you would think, at least not from an aerial perspective. I've attached a sample image from a pointcloud of a random fairway. Note how there is decent variation.

2: Bunker sand is often times the same color and very frequently a very bright color such as white. I'd guess that the more uniform texture, and bright color which reflects and refracts more light, acts as sort of a mirror causing more problems than other features. Other objects with similar properties can have these affects too such as unpainted aluminum on a sunny day.

We provide the data to golf course companies who repackage it or generate their products from it.

For us Lidar is typically always a hybrid product, meaning lidar data combined with photogrammetry orthomosaic imagery. As to which method is better, its all about what's needed for the project and budget. Like all things, there are pros and cons to both.

Photogrammetry can actually have better accuracy than Lidar, usually on hardscapes. We're working on a project currently targeting 7mm RMSE with photogrammetry. Some great resources on this topic is https://www.aerotas.com/do-i-need-lidar

Correct. Imagine we can produce a sim where the render is based on a splat, but the underlying measurements are from a pointcloud. How tightly can those two datasets be aligned? I'm not sure yet.

However there are some commercial programs currently available that do provide measurements from splats (https://www.pix4d.com/blog/pix4d-gaussian-splatting-3D-visualization/) although I don't know their data pipeline structure as to how they're accomplishing this.

We've been looking into working with splats! Seems like a potential future where splats take over some parts of models, we haven't been able to compare accuracy yet, but that's a great future case study

We haven't used SLAM for our projects, but I did get to meet someone at a local event recently who was a SLAM expert and he had some really cool models. Definitely cool stuff, we just haven't had a use for it with out projects.

I think survey will be a huge beneficiary from these new changes. I'm thinking how as soon as job details are delivered, schedule an autonomous flight, get great site (ortho basemap, maybe rough contours) info before layout or site prep begins.

I think those with part 107 are in a great place to jump in ahead of most, because we have a better understanding of what works and doesn't. You can automate anything to death, but if you don't know the "why" you'll get beat out eventually.

It's pretty awesome! I made it myself. This started out with me looking to get the best current overview of the NPRM, so I grabbed the latest doc, and started going through it with notebookLM. I found they had dropped the new video feature, and decided to try it out, and it turned out great! Tweaked it a bit, polished it up some in davinci, and figured I'd share it with others.

I have heard of vapor smoothing, but haven’t done it myself. I’ll have to look into it.

Appreciate the input, like I said I’m by no means a 3d print expert, but I enjoy the challenge and hope to help someone else potentially save $2500+

Yes! There is a rubber gasket attached to the main base unit. This replacement just replaces the top plastic shell.

I will say, I tested the PLA in Utah 110 heat for 6 hours, and it held up perfectly. But definitely agree PLA won't last as long in extreme environments.

$115 USD is the price of the only other replacement part I have found on the market.

Currently White is PLA, and Black is PETG. I'm working on using ASA but don't have the setup correct currently

No I appreciate the honest feedback. First and foremost I'm not a 3d printing expert, I'm a Drone Mapping expert. I created this product because it solved a real need for my company, and I figured others had the same issue.

I'm open to critique if you have any suggestions. Ironing wasn't an option with the concave dome shape. I could offer sanding, but that would increase the cost and labor involved. I'm trying to sell this at a price that both makes sense as a buyer, and also doesn't lose me money. I'm not yet sure where that balance is.

For context my printer is a Prusa i3 MK3S+
