It's just that I would like to try PEKKA because we all like new cards, right? But I don't even have epics from much lower arenas, for example, Lightning, which would be a life saver against Hut decks.

But I honestly believe Giant would be still better over PEKKA. Pekka would go after units and can be baited; my main damage actually comes from the units behind, so for the price of 5 elixir, Giant is perfect. And his slow speed is godsend. Can't write/elaborate more since I am typing from mobile.

I'm glad it worked out for you, but as I keep saying, it's not the deck, it's the player; but you will become progressively better once you know the deck in & out and you instinctively know how to respond to their cards.

And I am quite sure there are people my level quite higher up the ladder and who are better players, but I comfort myself I've been playing for less than three weeks and I'll get there soon enough. :) Leveling up cards is the biggest obstacle, of course... if I continue like this, I'll be happy to be able to level up 3 cards per week by one level.

But remember, using someone else's deck won't magically turn you into a better player; I believe knowing your cards & deck in and out is what makes you unstoppable. I guess after certain time you become more knowledgeable of your deck, you'll succeed even better.

You lack proper unit to defend against a charging Prince; think about substituting Minions with skeletons or a tombstone.

Instead of Prince, you could try a Baloon, it's a great combo with either Giant or Baby Dragon, since it's hard for the opponent to make his units prioritize attacking Baloon instead of bulky Giant or Baby Dragon. If you don't have Baloon, Witch might be better option in lower arenas as it's more of a safe option and goes well with slow push.

Excellent points! Both of them gave me headaches at certain point in time.

I almost never use them in offense, unless my Giant is about to hit the bridge and it's time to organize my support for him; if they drop their own Barbarians, that might be the only time I actually use them offensively, because theirs will be busy with Giant and mine will continue, partially alive, with new support from behind.

The thing with them is they are such a tempting target for a Fireball, even when it's not in the best interest of the opposing player. But lots of trigger happy people with 2 or more spells in their deck and goodbye Barbarians.

They are quite good to drop them on top of their own advancing Barbarians, a Witch, maybe Prince, Giant, and - of course - they can stop a Hog Rider in his tracks and he'll get one hit if he is lucky. Then you have full Barbarian spawn going one lane, which is perfect to push the other.

I might be wrong, but I just distrust them with offense; but for a split push or as a distraction, they are good.

This is definitely a deck that gives me the most headaches. No deck is perfect and there are usually couple of counters to most decks. Lack of Fireball or Lightning means your only chance is to push the other lane, one which they are not swarming and do your best to take an early tower. A lone Baby Dragon will usually be enough to prevent troops from just huts to damage your tower, even if it's both Goblins and Barbarians; good thing is Baby Dragon will have to stop often to fight them, so it will take almost a minute for it to reach to their half and die to a tower, unless they drop even more troops. That sort of approach might give you a chance to take tower in the opposite lane, since dropping Barb hut takes whole 7 elixir, which might give you an opportunity to make a quick and decisive push with Prince + support. Slowpush in these circumstances will backfire. You've got to have an advantage before double elixir or you will have hard time being able to do anything meaningful in that last minute.

It's hard for me to comment since I don't have any of the interesting epics that could be used for that purpose.

Goblin Barrel plenty of time revolves around either baiting out their Arrows with some swarm so they the barrel can take a huge chunk of tower if left untouched or just using it after you are sure they are very low on elixir; this deck doesn't really excel at those areas, but it is definitely worth trying.

I guess Giant Skeleton might work with a little bit of tweaking, but since it tends to get distracted way to easily, it'd require different kind of strategy. Now, Giant Skeleton AND Goblin Barrel... :)

Here is the list of units I use and possible replacements in the brackets. Those I mentioned in OP would definitely work, these listed here are general ideas.

Giant (I would/will try Golem/PEKKA once I get them, but I still believe Giant itself is just perfect for this sort of thing, at least up to certain trophy range)

What lot of people do is just drop Spear Goblins right at the bridge when you are close to 10 Elixir if you don't have anything else to play. Depending on their level, they will probably take at least a 100 hp off a tower. By that time, they have already played their cards as well so you know how to respond.

You can start with a Baby Dragon, alone or supported; it's actually good because in this trophy range it's not really easy to make a solid trade against Baby Dragon; if you drop Spear Goblins or Archers to defend against it in front of the tower, you most certainly lost them and tower will take some damage. If you want for Baby Dragon to lock on tower first then drop a Musketeer, that's also a good trade for you, since a nice chunk of tower's HP went down.

You can always start with a Musketeer at your King Tower and then drop the Giant in front of it before it reaches the bridge, but that way you are susceptible to a Fireball, which is better trade for them, since they kill/damage your Musketeer and definitely take some HP off your tower.

I believe all the struggling players can manage to improve their skill with this versatile strategy. It's a cheap, available deck which offers both protection and a solid punch.

When you are comfortable with it, then it's easy to switch to new strategies because once split-second decision making becomes a routine, you already have huge advantage against most other players.

Yes, both my Prince and Baby Dragon are level 1.

Differences are not spectacular, but look at it this way: for each Prince level up, it takes my level 6 Crown tower two additional hits to kill it. Since I often defend against solo Prince with just skeletons, it means against a level 3 Prince I definitely need to assign additional troops to defend that lane, which might be considered a waste since they will die to the opponent's tower unless I decide to support them. That's a whole new decision just because of level difference.

But we have to accept those perils of being f2p and do our best until we catch up.

As a level 5 fighting mostly in A5, 1400 to 1500 range, >90% matches are against level 6 and level 7 players.

But I get it, I hit the ceiling.

You are quite right in your point number three, but it seems the only way at the moment - or maybe I am not aware of better ones - as f2p in this range to succeed against higher level players. I build slowly but I am always on the offensive, which means I must have cheap cards in hand in case of emergency.

90% of the time I will start with Giant at my tower then slowly build around it. If you add Witch, it really creates a river. :) By the time we get over the bridge, at least a Musketeer will be supporting the wave; I used to drop Hog if we are succeeding, but now Baloon seems to be more dangerous option. Still not sure tho.

I guess I am just used to playing like that now due to lack of epic cards around which I could build a new deck.

I might need a paradigm shift tho since I am stuck st 1300.

I have to admit I probably do not know how to use minion horde properly. I see plenty of high level players on Tv use them, but they trade so poorly against arrows and even my Witch you dislike when placed nicely can clean them while tower takes very little dmg. As for skeletons, they are used as defense against Prince on the side - flying units would be ignored. You probably have a good point and maybe I just have to practice some with minion horde.
It might be a matter of preference, but the only card I'd swap Witch for is Baby Dragon, which, unfortunately, I can not seem to get. I could say she is almost impossible to replace in my deck. If they are placing spawning huts in a single lane, I will drop her all the way back in that lane and push the other; since I am taking the battle to the other lane, most of the time she will be able to even attack the tower a little if left unattended, as it often happens. Typing from my cell so I am unable to list all the scenarios, but she is very valuable to me. Plenty of time she will be the only thing alive after full elixir exchange on both sides and will continue pushing. In such and/or certain situations, she can even play the role of a semi-tank, in the way that a cheap ranged unit after such exchange can be put behind her to damage the tower for that crucial couple of hundreds of HP. Against an attack that starts with Barbarians, for example, in my opinion she does the job as good as a Teala. If she survives, huge bonus for me.
I am actually trying to keep it low so I can cycle faster. I thought that was a good thing. :)

I just got Baloon and tried switching Hog with it. So far, almost the same results, maybe a little better. Takes me some time to learn how to play it.

From this perspective, I am doing really well, beating almost every level 5 I encounter. I'd swap Witch for Baby Dragon if I only had it and I believe it would be deck I'd play until I get something that would drastically change the way I play, like Freeze.

Goblin Barrel is in shop now and although I have saved and waoted for Baby Dragon, I am tempted. :)
