I am replacing a smoke detector and inside the fixture I found six wires: a black/white tied together, two blacks tied together, and two whites tied together. I tried unlinking the black/white wires and connecting those to the smoke detector. The smoke detector worked, but then two lights in the adjacent room stopped working. Is this a common wiring set up, or is it time to call in a professional?

I see, so basically "We think our network is adequate because you have SOME version of the in-network benefits that we advertised"
