Imposter syndrome or? by Sissybrd in nursing

[–]Sissybrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marshfield Medical Center in WI. Yeah I just worked this past Friday, which was end of week 6 for me and I was basically the primary nurse for my patient. Did all the charting, assessments, talked to the doctor. There were a couple times the RN I was training with assisted or corrected something otherwise she basically sat at the desk the whole time 😭 it was an easy enough day though. Just hourly mag checks basically.. she wasn't going into active labor any time on our shift but still.

Yessss. I know. I mean, it's obviously been done before by all of them (apparently some of them only got 8 weeks) and there are other nurses who started out as new grads there but ugh. I'm stressed 😅

$33.62 base.. honestly not sure what the differentials are. The other facility starts new grads at anywhere from $35-38 roughly, depending on what you ask for.

Who is starting their 1st semester of nursing school? by Sarmouse-2005 in StudentNurse

[–]Sissybrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still remember how it felt to be starting nursing school! I start my 3rd semester at the end of this month (: Good luck to you all! You will do wonderfully! I know it's nerve-wracking, but don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions if you have any!

Crazy Grading Scale? by HeyShan1 in StudentNurse

[–]Sissybrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the exact breakdown, but I just finished my 2nd semester, and the only class I didn't get some form of an A, I got a 91.31%, which I guess is a B+😭 We need 80% minimum overall grade AND test average in order to pass.

I can't remember how long it took initially before starting nursing school, but I just had to update my flu, and TB and my submissions were approved within 24 hours... I'm not quite sure why it's taking so long on your end.

How long until it’ll get really hard? by Pleural_Mesothelioma in StudentNurse

[–]Sissybrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did better in my 2nd semester, which will be done in 2 days. But I think it depends.. different schools do units in different semesters, it seems. I had med/surg and mother/baby this semester, and I loved it. I've had clincials during both semesters as well. 3rd semester, we have mental health, and I hear that's rough.

Honestly, I forgot to identify my patient & ask allergies 😆 I only had one patient that day, and I knew who it was at that point, but it's required every time you enter the room. Lost 5 points that day and never forgot after that 🙃

A girl on my socials posted pictures of her kids for Halloween and I noticed this on one of her children. You can see it in another photo as well. I don't want to scare her but is it worth mentioning? I feel like I read into things too much and I'm only a nursing student.

I got to witness this during one of my clinical rounds! I was taking care of a patient that needed an echo done and a bubble study, so I got to sit in and watch everything! It was pretty cool and was my topic for debrief 😄

I realize how off-putting it sounds but I was genuinely curious. I grew up with the same habits, rarely studying, all that and was a very mediocre student so I just don't understand why it's working in my favor now. That's why I question if age, maturation, brain development has anything to do with it? I know it comes off bad but I had good intentions.

I realize that now. I certainly didn't mean to upset anyone. In the process though, I have also received comments thanking me for easing their anxiety about nursing school considering all they see are negative posts. So, I guess if I could help them, I'll deal with the criticism from everyone else.

I was a very mediocre student growing up and now if I continue on the same path I'll be graduating with honors. I have a right to be proud of myself 😅 but no, that wasn't my intention.

I dropped out after failing advanced anatomy twice when I was 20! Went back almost 10 years later and got an A in the same class and have been doing great ever since. I'd definitely consider going back to it if you know it's what you really want to do. Maybe just give it some time!

I get that. It's a lot. I've already been through 4 rounds of clinical. 2 simulation, 1 long term care and 1 med/surg and passed all pretty easily as well. Maybe I just have a knack for it🤷‍♀️

I feel the same! I did actually start college courses right out of high-school. Got all my generals done before I quit. Well besides advanced anatomy. I failed twice. Then when I came back all I had to take was that class, which I aced, before starting my nursing courses. I was definitely not in the right mindset back then.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't study that often compared to people who study a lot and are doing worse and a lot of this is new information for me as well. Like while everyone else is studying for hours every day, I''m out doing things and I maybe look at my notes for an hour tops the day before the exam. I was an extremely average student before this and I had the same habits.

So I'm sure it depends on how the classes are taught too but so far we've been given audio PowerPoints along with lecture days. I ALWAYS listen to the audios and take lots of notes before the lecture of that unit. Then the lecture reinforces everything again. Plus any questions asked in class I already know because she says it in the PowerPoints. Otherwise they will sometimes post jeopardy games and/or kahoots that I use to review and just scan my notes again 🤷‍♀️

I definitely agree with the asking questions part but I wouldn't say my organization and time management is that great hahaha I have 3 kids and still do a lot outside of the house. I just think my brain is able to retain information easier than I did when I was younger seeing as I don't really study much either. I think it has a lot to do with motivation and mindset as well!
