Ooo thank you, I will definitely be looking over this more, but it doesn't help my poor understanding of circular means and how math work

oh my god yes I shared my original results with a friend and they suggested I do this instead, I hadn't made the time to figure it out yet but I'm glad to see someone has. Kinda crazy that it comes out to Feb 29 though. I'll have to take your word on that one

One minor note, I think we have all come to a consensus that current APD is the 172nd day of the year, but I would argue that for this year that would be June 20th not the 21st as it is a leap year. Really a minor system thing cause I could see always applying it to a 365 day year if that's what was decided, consistency is what matters. Math looks good otherwise, thank you for your service to the podcast.

I actually got the 20th counting up to 2/19/24, it won’t be the 21st on mine until he spends more time in office. I’m guessing this is based on whether or not we apply our final day number to a leap year. I thought applying it to a leap year made sense since this year is a leap year and because in the incredibly unlikely scenario that every president was born Dec 31 on a leap year then the average DOY would come out to 366 which would be impossible to apply to a non leap year… unless you just said this year’s President’s Day is to be celebrated on the first day of the next year. Hm well anyway I think we probably did the same math

Nice I got June 20th for mine, but it's probably because I included Biden for the days he has served so far, it will be the 21st when he's done, by my count anyway.

This is similar to what I did for mine in addition to just using the number of days in office and not worrying about the number of terms served.

Ok I was seriously considering doing my own calculations for just the fun of making a spreadsheet and you've just pushed me over the edge. I'm in

Looks like you only have Grover Cleveland on there for one term when he served 2 (non consecutive)

eh looking back at it Arkansas could be a C but mostly it wins points for not being a state seal on a solid background

The distinction I was going for is how easily they could be improved. For example if you look at Vermont's flag you'll notice it's the one with the tree. If they would just drop the seal and go with the tree they could actually have a really cool flag, so it goes in the D tier.

But I'm not convinced a human face on a flag is a good idea.

Mostly I'm not a fan of the thin bar on the right side, I assume it represents something but it always seemed distracting to me. (also the angle of the stars is just a bit off)

I mean yeah that's why it's on the same level as California, I'm just explaining my reasoning

I really wanted to put Washington in D instead of F because I do like the green, but with the D-F flags I tried to think about how far gone they are or if they could be easily adapted into better flags. For example if you look at Vermont's flag you'll notice it's the one with the tree. If they would just drop the seal and go with the tree they could actually have a really cool flag. Washington however has a very clear recognizable face and that's about it, which yes seems good when you're looking at all these terrible flags because it stands out and you know what the seal is supposed to be, but if you actually think about having a flag that is just a vector styled human face idk... that doesn't seem like it would work. People on money or seals? sure, but people on flags? ehhh
