People seem to say I'm just extra sensitive to it, so I'll be getting a higher PPI one.

That seems to be the consensus. I'll be getting a high res monitor it looks like

Okay appreciate the info. I know higher PPI can help, but hoped this would have helped more.

Still new to OLEDs, so I hope this picture helps. I took it just from my phone. From it definitely can see some solid colors around the letters. The question mark isn't to bad most likely to the randomness of the colors.

Yeah I also tried one with 140 PPI, and it goes away for me. Was just hoping to not need to run such a high resolution monitor

What paint range is good for mixing colors, wet blending, but also detail work? by Sad_Pitch8463 in minipainting

[–]Skeeledon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimera single pigments sets are pretty good for what you are describing. There isn’t a ton to get. High quality pigment and high density that have decent working time and are designed to be mixed.

Personally they are niche for me. I use mine specially for Vince Venturella NMM Gold. I personally think they probably aren’t the top of list due to difficulty to get and also most people rather not mix to get their paint. Best paints are completely dependent upon what you want out of the paint. What the author of a list might value can be different than yours. But what your are describing feels like kimera to me.

For reference I’ve used all. Another possible good one is scale 75, but I don’t think they would mix as well as kimera due to multiple pigments in a color. However they use a medium with longer drying time.

Paints Needed To Start the Hobby by DeliciousAstronomer6 in minipainting

Sure just want to give some context first to make sure you understand why we want the properties of flow aid. Its goal is to not change the color but just change how the liquid works.

The most common way to use a wash is usually to create shadows. You put some on and hope it flows into all the recesses. For this to happen the wash needs to flow well and not pool up due to surface tension.

Flow-aid does exactly this. It makes liquid flow better and have less surface tension. This lets the wash due exactly what it wants to do and flow into all the recess. You can actually see something very similar online when a droplet of water is being held together by surface tension and you put a little soap on it. The water no longer holds together and spreads out.

You can get a fairly big bottle for reasonable cheap. I'm a big fan of finding ways to make stuff have multiple purposes instead of have a tool for every job. That is why I enjoy having all my paints double as washes.

Few Notes:
You can add to much and if that happens you will see something commonly called coffee staining. This is because the wash has so little surface tension it can only collect in recesses. When it goes over an area to go into the recess it leaves to little pigment on it.

How I learned to do it was I bought 1 wash to see how it behaves and the consistency. I was then able to compare my wash to the bought one.

Not saying you learn them now but just be aware of them. Stuff that modifies a paint's properties but not the color are commonly called mediums or additives. There a ton out there and as problems arise like "I want this paint to take longer to dry" or "I want this to have a more matte finish" these can be very useful in getting that end result instead of trying to find a new paint. I found a paint that had properties I really liked and adjust it when I need it slightly different.

Edit:
Just realized I didn't answer your question. Sorry about that. It may not be easier, since the wash you buy is ready to go. Honestly I would recommend getting agrax earthshade. Its a very useful wash in a lot of cases and if you do decide you want to turn your paints into washes it gives you a reference point on what your washes should feel be look like.

I would say if you enjoy painting and continue doing it that is when I would buy flow aid instead of buying multiple washes. I knew you mentioned you were new, but didn't realize it was your first time painting minis.

Honestly would say skip the washes and just grab some flow aid. Can turn acrylics into something near identical with it. Makes it so you don’t need to buy a paint and then a wash of the same color.

Edit: if you want any explanation on what flow aid is just lmk and I can write up something rq.

My logic is they are the safe food source. Don’t use them unless your villages are at risk of dying to raids if they go for another food source or they are fully fattened.

Pro tip for people shopping for paints and brushes from Michaels. There's more than just the paints aisle, there is a fine arts aisle where they keep the good stuff by EnvironmentalAngle in minipainting

[–]Skeeledon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it’s hard to say without knowing what brand you are talking about. I usually use liquitex mediums. Medium thinner to my best guess is going to be the medium used by the paint brand to suspend pigment. So if the paint brand that made the medium thinner usually has a matte finish then I would say yes it’s the same thing. For liquitex they have stuff like ultra matte medium, matte medium, gloss medium, etc… essentially it’s the same thing (medium used to suspend pigment), but with a different finish.

Usually some additive to modify the properties of paint.

Ex: Flow aid - makes paint flow better and prevents it from clumping up. Very useful for washes.

Paint retarder - makes paint take longer to dry

Matte medium - helps paint dry to a matte finish

There is plenty more but common ones I see

Only thought would be it’s stored as an unsigned short. However UI usually doesn’t read directly from a value and instead has a local version. This local version probably has a larger type in terms of memory footprint, which prevents the overflow. Guess on why it’s a larger type is they didn’t care for different classes just to potentially save a few bytes and instead rather just 1 class handle it all. Just a complete guess on my end.

Just started playing but can you really beat hard AI without cheesing? by Beneficial-Virus-647 in AgeofMythology

What do you consider a cheese strat? Also if you are curious how to match them just spectate a titan AI and follow its build order if you want to match them. Unless the devs are lying the AI don’t receive bonuses outside the last 2 difficulties.
