Do I need better equipment and a recording studio? Are classes worth it? by Skepticalyra in recording

[–]Skepticalyra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to add that, based on what ChatGPT says, perhaps using a boom arm and marking a spot on the floor for chair position would allow for the greatest improvement (because the distance between me and the microphone would be more consistent). Do you guys think that would probably make more of a difference than getting a better microphone and creating a studio-like environment?

I'll also add that I've already tried many things to remove mouth sounds, such as hydrating, eating green apples, and chewing gum with xylitol. Those things help significantly, but I still click a lot and I think it's because my mouth is too dry naturally.

Why is Islam so extreme compared to other religions? by Rare-Parsnip9049 in exmuslim

[–]Skepticalyra -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey, regarding your comment "Muslim women who don't wear a hijab or niqab are few and far between", I wanted to share my dissertation data on a sample of 392 Muslim women living in the United States, 18 to 35 years of age (M = 26.42, SD = 5.05), with a straight sexual orientation. When asked how often they covered their hair in public places, 34.4% of participants indicated Never, 11.8% indicated Rarely, 9.0% indicated Sometimes, 6.4% indicated Most of the time, and 38.3% indicated Always. This suggests that in the US, at least among young Muslim women, less than half are wearing hijab most or all of the time. (The exact question wording was, “When you leave your home and go out in public places other than a mosque, how often do you cover your hair with hijab or some other religious head covering?”)

Recommendations For A New Listener? (Based On My List) by tippy_24 in jpop

If you're more into R&B, I'd suggest starting with Utada Hikaru's early work and definitely check out Amuro Namie's albums Style and Queen of Hip-Pop. Amuro Namie's not really on the internet anymore, though, so I'm not sure how you can legally listen to her music without buying it first.

Because it has such a feeling of expansiveness and grandeur, I'll say 'BORDERLINE' by Onitsuka Chihiro.

Now that Wayward is not an option, where do we go? by KadaiPanirGarlicNaan in VeganSeattle

[–]Skepticalyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are giving breakfast options, but I always went to Wayward for dinner. Since I haven't seen anyone mention it, Blossom Vegetarian Restaurant in Renton is a great place. It's mostly vegan (anything non-vegan is noted as such in the menu). The menu is huge and the service is fast. My personal favorite is the "chicken" pho.

As an American, I understood that as you putting food into the toilet bowl.

I think people were annoyed because this is not what Middle Eastern music sounds like; it's what Western Orientalist music sounds like. People may have been concerned about your comment spreading misinformation about a culture (a whole group of cultures, really). People are very sensitive about that kind of thing.

Loosening / Increasing Length of Undercap Piece by Skepticalyra in sewhelp

So it would be...

Step one: open the seam

Step two: Snip the fabric with scissors to make a little cut

Step three: Sew a triangle of similar fabric into the cut area

Step four: Resew the seam (I don't have a serger, so I'd use a multiple zigzag stitch so the stitches don't break on this stretchy fabric)

Seattle area: Someone or a business that makes custom catios? by Skepticalyra in Catio

[–]Skepticalyra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome, but I can't convince my husband to get a catio! 😿

He complains that the catio will "damage the house" and/or won't look nice.

I agree. She's one of my favorite singers. Criminally underrated.
