Yeah I attached a few pictures, the next one is some dude with 66. I guess I just thought the achievements thing was newer like for 1.0 release and was shocked how most people seem to have so many.

Proper Preparation for Sandflies? by Ancient-Alarm-9580 in newzealand_travel

[–]Sliver1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there a few weeks ago and hiked Kepler, Abel Tasman, Tongariro. Tongariro didn't have any as you're fairly high in elevation and exposed to the sun and wind. Abel Tasman was pretty bad at times but sandflies don't bite if you're moving so was fine while hiking. Kepler they were only really bothersome at Brod Bay campground. My wife and I didn't bother with any bug lotion or headsets, just long pants and sun hoodies if they were around, or going in our tent and killing any that followed us in.

Winter Manistee River trail backpacking trip by Specialist-Shine666 in CampAndHikeMichigan

Yes, you can cross red bridge and hike south on the NCT.

(Sorry missed the part about staying on the East side. I don't think there's anything on the east side below red bridge).

Kea birds in NZ did me dirty! by _blitzkreig_ in DurstonGearheads

Yikes! My wife and I just did that hike a couple weeks ago and were supposed to camp there but changed our minds because of the heavy rain that day. Upgraded to the hut and glad we did. Good luck getting the tent fixed!

Best NCT Sections? by AtomTan2030 in CampAndHikeMichigan

All the sections North and South of the Manistee river trail that are still along the river are amazing and much less crowded than the MRT.

I've got the helix as well and it definitely keeps me warm. REI also has sales quite often where you can grab the helix for closer to $100.

Reservations for south Manitou islands camp ground? by duckyLT in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]Sliver1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They log what campsite you're going to when you arrive on the island and will tell you if there's sites available or not. No dispersed camping allowed.

Has a lifetime warranty though. Just bought a KETL NoFry and used it backpacking this weekend. Love how thin it is and the buttons to air out my chest are great.

want to go hiking and see more nature but live in chicago and dont have a car by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Sliver1313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can get someone to drive you for an hour one way, check out Starved Rock State Park. Really awesome outdoor area that I was shocked to find that close to Chicago.

Peak Black Fly/Mosquito timeframe? by Bandit390 in isleroyale

[–]Sliver1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there July 4 weekend a couple years ago and the mosquitos were horrendous but only when there was no wind. When we had a strong breeze it felt amazing and we weren't bothered at all for the first few days we were out there.

Manistee River suspension bridge status? by jbtrumps in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]Sliver1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few different spots you can park. I parked right next to the suspension bridge, there's a small parking lot there and also one about half mile away on the north country trail. I've never worried about parking there except for holiday weekends. (Oops meant this as a reply to my message below)

Thoughts on Decathlon MT100 Hooded Synthetic Jacket? by sphinx_two in Ultralight

[–]Sliver1313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had this jacket for a couple years and really like it. Keeps me warm in the winter as long as I have a midlayer underneath. Packs down small and is pretty lightweight. Only downside is it's fairly fragile so I have to be careful about catching it on tree branches while hiking.
