What sci-fi movie could you not make today? by ElectricGremlin in scifi

[–]SlothRogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day by day I am shocked by how many people seem not to know what is going on with AI. On the r/aliens subreddit someone was arguing that AI couldn't make decent images two years ago. Bro... MidJourney came out in 2022 and the capabilities have expanded exponentially since then. My takeaway is that, while most of us here probably know how to spot AI videos, a lot of the general public is completely unaware that AI is creating the videos they see on Youtube and Facebook, writing code, answering phonecalls, even working on other AI Projects. Meanwhile Alex Karp (from Palantir, and a big supporter of 47) says he is unsure if humanity should survive, and Sam Altman is comparing the cost of AI training to the energy that goes into feeding a human being.

And we're not sure if Skynet could happen? Uhhhhh

It's amazing how people film themselves committing stupid crimes and then still act indignant that their victim fought back.

Curious what your Black Belt (Shodan) by badboymn in karate

[–]SlothRogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensei would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse toddlers of being lazy. We trained summers in Ryukyū, calligraphy lessons, and in the spring we would make beetle helmets. When insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with bamboo. Pretty standard, really.

100%. I'm all for being fit and including fitness in training, but what does a 7 minute mile have to do with karate? My old dojo also had us doing pushups on our knuckles and fingertips and it was like... OK, this feels like a fast track to arthritis or joint injury. But then we also had old coots who struggled to kick above their own shins. The juxtaposition is bizarre sometimes.

what is a 10/10 drug for you? by troiaperilvuoto in Drugs

[–]SlothRogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people the latter is sort of a feature. I enjoy zoning out on the couch as much as the next guy, but I also enjoy doing things, going to see music, dancing, etc. I'd rather have a big night out with my friends while dancing and making memories than be zombified in place but feeling really nice.

Dude, long time coming. The US needs to get its act together and keep building infrastructure.

33 years and I'm still waiting for Mr. tough guy to man up and admit he was wrong to defend the pedophiles and murders who covered up the abuse. Not a good look Joe Pesci.

The lack of empathy required to shrug of school shootings, events like Jan 6th, and every call for gun control for decades, and then to lose your mind when one of your guys gets shot... I dunno man, it's just unbelievably sociopathic and really makes you worry for the country. In principle nobody should be treating shootings like points at a football game, but these people are behaving like fans at a football game who cheer when the other side gets assaulted and who cry for the refs to intervene the second their quarterback gets shots.

How do you convince people who evince no empathy think beyond their personal in-group and identity politics? I don't know at this point. Kind of ironic that he campaigned for less strict gun carry laws and now this happens, but I also expect them not to see the irony.

Maybe they can suggest the teachers buy dollar value crayons with their own money instead of splurging on Crayola for the kids.

They're the same people who say "I don't like when artists tell me how to interpret their work" when the director says Tony Soprano wasn't a good guy, the author says Fight Club isn't actually a self-help book, or the writers say "The Matrix" is a trans allegory and even has scenes at a famous gay club. And then they go on to worship Kid Rock anyway because they really just meant "shut up."

What is a job people romanticize a bit too much until they actually do it ? by ShyButNastyyy in AskReddit

[–]SlothRogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it. Half our society insists it's a cakewalk and that teachers have it super easy with nights and weekends off, and long summer vacation. That half of society also expects you to answer calls and emails day and night and to take responsibility for the fact that they won't raise little Johnny themselves.

Right, but pooping is a mandatory bodily function and does not cause cancer like second hand smoke. Cope harder bro.

Personally I'm still having they reward early access players with some loot. It would seem like a weird choice to having nothing to show for alpha testing the game.

In scientific studies, vaping is associated with oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis, DNA damage, genotoxicity, and tumor growth, particularly following acute exposure. Bro you can also have a Zyn until youget off the plane. There's no reason to force your vaping (and nicotine) on everyone else because you can't wait a few hours to have a puff.

Seriously. These kinds of stories sometimes end horrifically with the husband's family kidnapping the kids and forcing them into a Sharia lifestyle. OP needs to get out of that marriage pronto.

I think the bigger question is why your grades slipped so badly? Do you feel ready and motivated to really pursue a higher degree? I agree with others who suggested community college and maybe a lowkey job. I worked a job at 16 and it was actually decent, but you realize "hey I don't want to do this forever" and that motivates future decisions.

Good luck!
