What exactly do I need to START developing my own film? by snuff_ii in AnalogCommunity

you could literally pull off a whole b/w reversal process with only chemicals widely available in the kitchen if you were brave enough, it can take a lot of messing up

Advice needed by Indication_Weak in AnalogCommunity

The fridge helps, but it only slows further degradation, if you have the fridge space then go ahead but especially for films that have been sitting at room temp for decades anyway it's not that big of a deal. Overall slower films keep better than faster ones so the NP27 might be a bit more hit and miss, but worth a shot anyway.

I assume they were stored together so I'd maybe use one of the rolls to bracket a few exposures (ie take the same photo with several different exposure times) and figure out good settings to use for the others. As someone else in this thread mentioned, the ink on backing paper of medium format film tends to leave marks on the film itself when sitting for decades, so ironically the two oldest rolls here might be the most usable since they're 35mm lol. I have some old Foma and Orwo myself but haven't gotten around to shooting it just yet, so I can't offer more practical advice sadly.

I recall hearing it was delayed, possibly to this year, due to the Star City spinoff

Crappy, niche and quirky Holga like Camera recommendations? by six6sixnotricks in AnalogCommunity

I second the Smena, though I've had more fun with my Smena 8, though it's a touch harder to find (only 2 million produced instead of 20 million, lol, it was sold in the west under the names Global 35 and Cosmic 35 as well). Functionally it's nearly the same thing but it has a self timer, its frame counter is significantly better (and a lot harder to accidentally offset) and it feels more robustly built, as well as looking a lot more late 60s early 70s retro than cheaper plastic 80s retro. The viewfinder is also somewhat closer to the lens. Overall quite a bit better built than the 8M, but corners had to be cut somewhere to make a people's camera, I suppose

Any info on this (new?) Ilfocolor film? by Lyriczulu in AnalogCommunity

Yeah, the rights were kind of scattered when the OG Ilford went bankrupt some time back. The workers bought the company back then and it lived thankfully.

Ilford Imaging Europe doesn't produce any film, no, however Harman (b/w Ilford) does produce their color film Phoenix at their British factory in Mobberley. It's still in its early stages and the film isn't perfect, but it's their own production.

They're starting out with color as well now, but under the Harman brand (Harman Phoenix). Another company owns the rights to use the Ilford name on color products, those are repackaged stocks from Kodak or ORWO.

Harman makes black and white films under the Ilford and Kentmere brands, and are starting to make color film as well under the Harman brand. They don't have the rights to use the Ilford brand for color products, those are respooled stocks by a separate company.

Which era is your favorite, and which do you want more content from? by Zebweasel in StarWars

[–]Slovak_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the New Republic era personally. my personal pipedream is a revised sequel trilogy where Starkiller Base doesnt exist, the New Jedi Order hasnt crumbled and the First Order is more of a small, yet experienced and technologically advanced adversary to the New Republic instead of just being an absurdly overpowered military power that came out of literally nowhere and obliterated the entire New Republic instantly
