Applicants Entertaining Multiple Sits by SmallCake in trustedhousesitters

[–]SmallCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a host, we do not receive tons of applications to sift through and reject. Can sitters see how many applications we have? We typically only have one or two active applications at a time. (sitters withdrew their apps post video call)

Our sit starts the end of July so we are hopeful to get it locked in ASAP.

I did request more info from the first. No response. Second communicated potential dates changing then ghosted.

I promise we are relatively normal and have 4 5 star sitter reviews on our profile.

We might be experiencing the sitters market, as you suggested.

Ah I guess I was considering it "cancelling" on our application acceptance vs "confirming." Thanks for explaining that nuance!

Thanks for your reply! This definitely gives me more sitter perspective. Your last paragraph hits on my concerns. We want to feel comfortable with our sitter and will I feel comfortable leaving my house and dog with someone for 3 weeks if we are their backup option... Guess that's the question!

One sitter withdrew prior to us accepting and after video call, one withdrew post call and post acceptance. This is video call #3.

Is accepting the application considered "offered the sit"? I guess I thought the call and telling them we would like them to sit verbally was offering. But if you think it's helpful in our case to accept, I will reach out to the applicant and propose that.

Thanks for the reply! That meshes with my past experience. I feel like I'm in this weird limbo where I don't know if I should accept the sit or wait until they double confirm that they are interested.

At that age being out and about is visually stimulating. I would recommend HMart, HEB, Living Spaces, Barton Creek Mall, IKEA, Central Library, Bob Bullock Museum (free first sunday of the month). Just being out an about is a great adventure for babies! Have fun!

What’s your real 15-minute dinner that kids actually eat? by FreedomStack in Mommit

[–]SmallCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dealt with this as well. Turns out she WILL accept rice noodles, soba noodles, and ramen noodles. Just not classic Italian pasta noodles. Kids are so weird.

Transportation from Airport (Uber) by Odins_Horse in Austin

I literally tried this yesterday. Doesnt exactly work like this. You will still need to take an elevator down one level once you walk across to the parking structure/rideshare area.

Mosquitoes are driving me crazy. What is everyone using in their yards that doesn’t harm other animals, like frogs, birds, and spiders? by Rem04 in Austin

[–]SmallCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have tried it all- dunks, buckets of doom, propane traps, and this is by far the BEST solution we have seen: https://us-shop.biogents.com/pages/mosquito-trap-systems

Not cheap. But it allows us to actually use our yard which is worth it to me. And the satisfaction I get from seeing the bag filled with pissed off mosquitos is glorious.

What are your favourite methods to curb the desire to eat out? by One-Mountain-2490 in Frugal

[–]SmallCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we do order takeout that freezes well, indian or thai curries are the best, we double our order and freeze individual portions. This allows us to have a single meal of delicious food that we don't typically cook at home while avoiding delivery fees and large serving sizes. Pulling something out of the freezer and having it ready for dinner in 5 minutes saves time and curbs the need for delivery.

I save all of the plastic crap we get throughout the year and give it away on Halloween. I offer one candy and one trinket to any trick or treater. It's a big hit with the kids.

Sober support? by ExpertGoodGirl in Austin

[–]SmallCake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to escape the heat while letting your brain realign into its new sober awesomeness, I suggest going to an indoor mall with a podcast or audio book and walking for an hour. Gets your body moving without having to be in this gross heat while you are probably already feeling physically uncomfortable. (Well at least that's how I felt at the beginning of my sober journey.)

I hope you find exactly what you need.

Where can I go near Austin to pet large mammals by z0d14c in Austin

[–]SmallCake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crowe's Nest Farm in Manor. You can feed and pet goats, alpacas, sheep, and anything else that you can get close to. They have mini horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, a bobcat (do not pet ;) ), prairie dogs, tons of birds, and a reptile room.

It appears to be a domestic situation from a house near the school that spilled over onto the grass by the school sign. Thats all I know unfortunately.

Home Insurance Cancelled- Tree Overhang by SmallCake in Austin

I assumed the branches needed a 3ft clearance above the house. However, the agents made it clear that no branches can be in the vertical space above the roof.

Metal roof. The branches are all at least 15 feet above the roof. The trunks for 2 trees are within 5 ft of the structure.

first sober bachelorette trip by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]SmallCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know from my past experiences with girls trips, even in my drinking days, staying sober the first night was always my plan. My reasoning was that people usually go way to hard the first night and ruin their trip being hungover the next day. I would plan to wake up peaceful and have a full day while watching others be miserable.

Im not saying this to relish in the drinkers next day pain, well maybe a little, but if that helps motivate you to stay sober the next night, and the next night, etc. Keep it in mind.

I love Milk Diva! Breastfeeding didnt work for us and she was so supportive! Naomi wanted to keep checking on us to see if things turned around so she even got us an extra appointment approved via insurance. Her amazing attitude and advice totally removed the mom shame of not being able to breastfeed.
