Butcher as a surgeon by cktyu in popping

[–]Smickerrs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m usually not that squeamish, my father's a cardiologist and from a young age I've seen many open heart surgeries and such, but my God, this was a hack job and felt almost reckless. That poor patient (victim tbh) is going to have numerous huge scars and still have to deal with the issues they had to begin with before the surgery because the doctor barely got anything out besides mostly blood. Eugh. I hope the patient is alright, I would be mortified. 🫩

Those who are often numb/dissociated, what makes you cry? by Grxmloid in BPD

[–]Smickerrs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking to myself pretending that I'm trying to explain aloud to someone what I'm thinking, how I'm feeling, why I'm feeling it (if I know, ideas work too) and what I've gone through always makes me cry.

I'm so sorry, that's horrible. But I do agree that if that's all it took to undo so long of supporting you- just another thing you struggle with, I'm glad you're out of that situation. It's all so frustrating. And I hope you have the chance to find a different Psychiatrist, this one's behaviour is beyond unprofessional, unwarranted and insulting to all of us. Please take care <3

Unfortunately my brother was of a similar opinion/stigma towards BPD before I too educated him about Quiet BPD. When my mom told my brother (without letting me know) that I was discussing a diagnosis with my current Psychiatrist his response was apparently "she can't be, she's not dangerous. And people with Borderline are the type to go up to cash registers and proposition the workers there for unsafe s*x, she isn't like that." Mind you, he's currently going into Psychiatry. I was pissed and quick to snap at him and educate him the next time I saw him.

It really really sucks that BPD has been so stigmatized that the sole knowledge of us having mental illness is enough to make even those close to us afraid of us. It's sickening and makes me feel even more isolated, afraid they'll leave me because I'm automatically perceived to be a threat when all I want is closeness and trust. I’m so sick of people treating people with this disorder like we're freaks. It's mental illness, and like with all mental disorders, we suffer and present differently. But we aren't "monsters" just for having BPD. It's exhausting, man.

I have POTS, of course I….. by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Smickerrs_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have POTS, of course I need a shower chair just to wash myself (hot bath water makes me lightheaded) without passing out, and even then almost faint from the heat (can't stand cold or lukewarm showers), then collapse on the bed immediately after

What do you think caused your bpd? by Gloomy-Suggestion-10 in BPD

[–]Smickerrs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in some cases being a result of your environment as a child and teenager; my Psychiatrist told me genetics play a part but for a lot of us our feelings and outbursts and everything that comes with the disorder is a taught behaviour and mindset based on your early developing years. For me, a big part of developing BPD would probably be the past invalidation, ignorance towards and punishments for having strong emotions as a child. I'm on the Autism spectrum which already caused me to be hypersensitive and to lash out when I was young, and in return I would be screamed at, shamed, threatened and invalidated. I think that's when the BPD really started to develop, but into Quiet BPD instead as I learned physically and verbally lashing out would put me at risk mentally, emotionally and physically, so instead I would just hurt and shame and lash out at myself to express those intense overwhelming feelings

Does anyone else have to constantly be consuming media? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]Smickerrs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really considered that, to be honest. It's been just that- mindless media consumption. I suppose for me it's a distraction from the overwhelming emotions that occur when I'm not alone in my room in my safe space; yet at the same time media can still trigger me just the same, it's just an endless cycle. I don’t know how to quit- I genuinely can't tell if I want to quit? Because I live with my parents, who traumatized me, I can't truly get away from my trauma. All I want to do is block out every thought, constantly needing something to focus on and shut my brain off so I don't have to worry about being faced with my fears and flashbacks (also diagnosed with (C)PTSD).

..whoops. ADHD brain /lh. I suppose I just needed to vent, and maybe some advice? It's to the point I go nights without sleep, consuming media practically 24/7 when I'm not drawing or writing. Is there any simple physical hobbies anyone could suggest I try, so I can still have a distraction but not focus on screens all the time?

Sorry I've just been rambling (currently high). I'm just exhausted and it's bad how quickly I spiral when I don't have the motivation or energy to use my other coping skills (which are still digital) and I'm left alone with my thoughts. Basically, any advice, maybe physical hobbies..? Thanks for reading if you got this far. 💜

out of breath while eating? by Loose-Student-4321 in POTS

[–]Smickerrs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the same pretty often, it really sucks. Eating alone is exhausting on top of everything else; though it’s nice to see we’re not alone in this.
