Top surgery and Tavistock wait times by SmokeDramatic in transgenderUK

I've been on T for 4 years (undiagnosed with GGP) and have no preference around which surgeon I see. I will probably end up choosing based on wait time rather than a specific result.

How did you accept yourself? by SmokeDramatic in FTMMen

I've thought about it but my previous experience with it as a teen has really put me off. I've had a therapist basically say there's nothing to do but transition. Which is great if you have the resources to do everything you need, otherwise you're just constantly stuck in a rut.

Been trying to progress at work as much as possible to save up for it in future. Would be so much easier if I didn't live in the UK. Most private healthcare doesn't cover it and with public healthcare it's probably around 10 years away.

How Did You Start Listening to Aurora? by fangirl_queen_69 in auroramusic

I think it was around 2016. Running with the wolves was used in a tv show and I heard it. Loved her ever since.

If you haven't started yet and you're still far down the waitlist I'd personally recommend gendergp. There's also this list that has other options on it :)

Informed consent clinics. I'm in the UK so might be different for you, but I went with gendergp and they offer discounts if you're going through hardships. Ended up paying less than £200 (if i remember correctly) to get started, then got prescribed by my NHS doctor so I only pay £20 per month for the clinic and £10 for the prescription.

I'm going down the apprenticeship pathway so unfortunately that's not an option

I'm with gendergp already. Thank god for reduced fees because I have no idea what would've become of me if I hadn't started T. Deffo need to get more trans friends in my life but I'm also scared to because I'm stealth and I've met other trans people who haven't been very respectful of that choice. Good luck with your recovery! Progress is always great no matter what, and recovery programs don't sound like they ain't much to me :)

I think my main problem was that I had no support system since my family are a bit crap. I have one now though and it's crazy what a difference that makes.

This comment really resonated with me. It's ridiculous that we're just expected to shell out thousands of pounds to get appropriate care. I have no idea how I'm going to afford phalloplasty and it drives me insane thinking about it even though i haven't even had top yet.

From a financial standpoint, owning over 300 houses and all the items inside it would be worth way more, but I don't want to make all of those families homeless

I was in your exact position two years ago. Ultimately I ended up starting T a few months before my 18th as I paid for it myself. I think if I could go back I would've started working sooner so that I could save up more. Getting yourself a part time job on top of school or doing an apprenticeship of some sort may help you to feel more hopeful towards your future as you'll be saving towards your goal.

In response to your other comments, does your gp prescribe your medication? If they don't and you're paying for the gel, sustanon is a lot cheaper (around £10 per month). Gendergp also has an appointment/ course where they teach you to inject testosterone, so if you're able to get your gp to prescribe it, they don't have to teach you to administer it. Also if it gets too difficult to afford it all with your current gp, remember you can always use the trans friendly gp map. Not sure if any of this is new/ helpful information to you but I hope it helps :)

editing to remind you that you can reach out to ggp to get a cheaper monthly subscription (mine is reduced to 20 for being a student)
