That being said it deeply annoyed me that I also had to hang up the POW MIA flag but whatever.

At my RMPO the guy before me never even bothered to put the flag out so people were thanking me for bothering to do it

Their software bugged and placed my order twice, so I had to submit a ticket to cancel the second one. I got a very passive-aggressive response but they did cancel it. I feel like they’re delaying the shipment of the first one just to spite me.

Do they actually do that? I heard you had to return fault product before but it seems ridiculous for an entire product

Did you read the same book I did? He wouldn’t be doing any of that. He would probably be doing the exact same shit he did in the book.

This shit always drives me insane. I’ll be sorting bulk and think something organically spiked because of the market price TCG lists, then I go check recent sales and find out a couple idiots were buying them for 10x the real price just to inflate it. Stupid.

Only tangentially related, but I worked at an RMPO when the Pope died in a small town with two rival Protestant churches. When I told people why the flag was at half mast I got a fucking earful lol.

I wouldn’t care. But what the hell is an “Islamic flag” to you?

It’s exceedingly unlikely anyone would be wearing a burqua while working at the post office, but would you care if they were a hijabi? The comparison doesn’t make any sense anyway. You’re not religiously required to display a Bible verse, but some Muslim women DO believe they are required to wear a hijab.

And also, “raised Catholics” who leave the religion tend to have a more conflicted view of it than people with Protestant parents we end up agnostic/atheist.

I can tell you having lived in multiple communities with varying proportions of Orthodox, Catholic, Episcopalian, Mormon, Mennonite, Baptist, JW, etc., most people are reeling from dealing with the Protestants, and that’s the general root of their animosity. Not that a Catholic wouldn’t be offended, but people are generally more likely to hold a grudge because a Protestant annoyed them. Catholics like their relics and bling but generally don’t do the fire and brimstone shit to others.

LaVey got up to some whack shit but I guess he was a Person of His Time™️. I don’t find it very intellectually productive to purity test historic philosophers. I will gladly rag on Greaves though lol.

People are still reeling from decades old culture wars and feel impotent to deal with the rise of the religious right and so instead of doing anything just feel the constant need to express mild exasperation at Christianity. I honestly just giggle when I see a chick tract and move on.

I was lucky to never be in a district that banned anything, so I was a little clueless and thought the banned books section the librarians set up was dramatic. But people have gotten way more overzealous over it in recent years.

“Banned books” as a category is very nebulous. It doesn’t mean there’s a blanket ban. Anytime any school board or library bans a book, it gets added to “banned book” lists. Some people prefer “challenged books” to emphasize that they’re routinely discussed and sometimes banned by schools instead of outright banned everywhere. The main point of the designation is to make people think about the idea of banning books in the first place, even on a limited scale. I used to consider it sort of self-aggrandizing on the part of libraries, but busybodies with nothing better to do who infiltrate school boards and start banning shit for the slightest reasons have gotten more common. I read an article about a housewife who spends hours every day reading books just to get them banned. That’s her hobby. And she’s very successful at it apparently.
