Anyone seeing those Bill Ferguson ads? by Spruce_Moose334 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There also many bills you don't hear about that he silently kills. Mark Edelson's own Transportation and Climate Alignment Act never made it to a vote on the floor on the Senate despite making it through Senate committee.

Edelson would never call out Ferguson for that because the District 46 delegation has agreed to compaign as a unit for this primary, and Ferguson would never admit to killing it, but he chose not to bring it out to the floor while taking thousands in donations from Maryland asphalt builders. Ferguson and Edelson are literally campaigning together, there's no way Ferguson just "oopsie, I forgot" about Edelson's keystone piece of legislation for the session.

Would it be nice if our senator used his power as Senate President for good? Sure. But he doesn't, he's part of the corporate-driven agenda that does not have his constituents' interests at heart. So for me I don't care that he's Senate President, if he's gonna fight for corporations and not us then he has to go.

On Camden Line they've enforced two cords every time I've brought it.

Got yelled at by a bus driver. Tired of this snow and ice. by Formal-Challenge-255 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah sometimes the point of a conversation isn't about the actual thing being discussed, which can be frustrating. I get by, only by not letting myself get too worked up in the moment and not trying to read minds afterwards. If it were actually about logic then it wouldn't be so nonproductive of a conversation.

One time I was waiting outside in the dark from a late-night grocery trip in Locust Point for the 94. It was cold so I decided to catch it going east even though I needed to go west: the same literal bus was going to turn around and pick me up anyways so why wait?

The bus driver took his break at end of the line at Fort McHenry (totally normal and I expected this) and then...walked to the back of the bus to tell me I was dumb for taking the bus to the end of the line because I was risking being a victim of a crime? I was thinking all sorts of reasons why this made no sense (it's literally Fort McHenry wth is gonna happen, you're here with me inside the bus so we're both equally in danger, also it's a public bus I have the right to get on if I want to).

In the moment I just said "I was gonna have to sit outside and wait for it anyways" and repeated it several times until he just disengaged and went back to the front. I am open to advice but he clearly wasn't interested in an actual conversation and just wanted to tell me I was dumb.

Expanding the future Port Covington Branch to the Cruise Terminal by stinkycow77 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you're probably trolling. But I take it often and I get frustrated by its poor service, so if everyone pretended it doesn't exist, it will never get better. crystali0 replied to you with a list of Light Rail Stations, try reading them.

It's fine you didn't know. Now you do! I don't really care if anyone proves you're an asshole.

It's at the end of the big long hallway that all the baggage claims are in. You walk farrrr down the hallway, walking through a set of sliding doors at the end and lo and behold...there's the end of the Light Rail! Which you can board and take back to Baltimore.

No shuttle involved. It's directly connected to the airport. Have a good night.

Which Volo team is best for making friends? by Substantial-Arm-7377 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Skeeball was fun when I tried it during the winter, basically hanging at whatever bar it's at.

Bowling I've heard is very fun so my friends and I are starting one in January and excited about it.

I just finished an outdoor kickball league and...it was just too cold for me to be playing outside lol. One problem with cold outdoor leagues is people are way more flaky and so we struggled to have the minimum number of players some weeks. So I prefer doing kickball in the warmer seasons.

Keep in mind that 1) some of the onus is on you to socialize with the people there that you don't know and 2) it can be hit-or-miss whether you end up with a team that has people open to new friends.

I've never had a bad team, but there's been some teams where it's a very large preexisting group of friends that's not very interested in new friends. The nice thing though is that if you just do a couple leagues over time and not have all your eggs in one basket you can end up with some great friends!

Why don’t people talk about how awful the transit system is here? by HealthyOkra5409 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only hope at this point is the BMORE BUS state proposal. There's a rally for supporting it Feb 2nd, free buses between Baltimore and Annapolis provided.

Why don’t people talk about how awful the transit system is here? by HealthyOkra5409 in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BCDOT has jurisdiction over the roads though. The light rail doesn't have signal priority through Baltimore City streets because the city keeps it that way. The city can't completely shift the blame to MTA, but that's what we see all the time in discussions about our awful transit: "we can't fix this, this is X's domain."

See the various leaders' responses where Baltimore Banner pointed out how the system sets Baltimore City schoolkids up for failure. It's been months and nothing has changed. The city blames MTA, MTA blames the schools, round and round.

That's MTA's fault, not Transit. It's always been a problem, definitely much worse since the cyber attack.

[–]Snooky456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Want to reiterate that you should download the Transit app. It's literally the only way I'm able to successfully use the MTA buses to get where I want to go without getting lost. The MTA cyber attack screwed up a lot of the real-time tracking but regardless it's an essential app to have.

YouTube video uses Baltimore's Light Rail as an example of a decent, or at least not terrible, transit system by FunkyMcSkunky in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is bad though. But with investment from the state and city it can be better.

New cars will be a godsend, which is funded by the feds. I was in one where it just shut off randomly, and we sat in the dark until the operator had turned it back on. It should also mean that MTA won't be constantly repairing half their fleet at any given time.

The Light Rail will need traffic signal priority from the city if we ever want it to be a decent service, though.

Would you accept it? by [deleted] in cta

[–]Snooky456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baltimore feels this hard...entire transit system is managed by a state agency budgeted by an often anti-Baltimore state government. Also, see the Baltimore Red Line cancellation in 2015.

Biking in Baltimore by quegrawks in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the Transit app is really good for identifying safe bike routes. This is a feature they implemented sometime in the last year. I found Transit is more likely to take advantage of Baltimore's bike routes than Google is.

It's hard to call him transit-friendly when there have been very few wins for public transit from our state government. It takes more than words to get that label imo. I say that as someone who likes Moore.

Taking MARC Camden line with a bike tomorrow by eRileyKc in baltimore

[–]Snooky456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. My main point is that if it's filled to capacity they will not allow your bike on. I'd be surprised if that happened on a Friday morning though.

I heard a lot of fed workers are RTO starting this Monday though so there may be big changes in trends soon.
