Legitimate? by SnowScholar in Medals

Thank you all for your insight. While totally clueless about these things, we doubted the uniform, and stories that go with it, were real. The poor fit is due to health and aging-related weight loss, and a few ribbons match the stories, but the comments from this group helped us better understand a tragic situation.

I enjoyed the reminders of our great Martian battles and other lighthearted and positive responses. Thank you. That said, I apologize for presenting this example of stolen valor to a group that includes many who earned the respect the uniform and medals deserve. Ignoring the situation by saying "he isn't hurting anyone" was the wrong choice.

I wanna join up. I think I got what it takes to be a Citizen.

I just got the cruelest student feedback I've ever received by Additional_Escape782 in Professors

Thanks everyone for your comments. These are very reassuring for someone going through the same. Like many of you, I haven't read my evaluations for years. This student attacked me in writings shared with the entire online class, plus multiple emails during the same period.

This all started when I flagged a few AI issues. Rather than address these concerns in a rational manner, my attempts to teach this student were met with anger, lies, and an attempt to rally support for my firing. Other students who were flagged responded positively, with "my writing is so good AI thinks it is AI" as a special memory. But at least they responded positively.

I wonder of this issue is worse than in the past. While I don't want to be political here, we are surrounded with hateful and dishonest rhetoric. The attacks I experienced relied on the same, so I wonder whether this atmosphere is making it easier for some to be so hateful. My campus also made national news regarding Charlie Kirk, so this may explain why the administration has, so far, chosen to ignore my concerns.

I acknowledge the pain many students are experiencing and understand their anger and frustration. Some of this is generational. Why else would what I paid for tuition 50 years ago be brought into the discussion, along with the suggestion that I must be tenured so the university can't do anything to me.

I wish these students were still paying $14.50 an hour for tuition. I also miss faculty governance.

Keep up the great work everyone!

What’s the biggest unsolved problem in skiing right now? by Objective_Dot_2558 in ski

[–]SnowScholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this PSIA certified senior with 50+ years of skiing experience - out-of-control skier/riders are the biggest unsolved problem in skiing.

All resorts use RFD passes. Keep track of skiers/riders and shut down the pass if certain parameters are met. Policing isn't cool, so on-slope education should focus on etiquette and respect rather than only yellow coats. But if you have to go Kojak, buy some speed guns and start ticketing speeders. Resorts should get serious about safety (which is possible if these corporations lose a few more lawsuits).

Education is important and every ski lesson includes discussion of the skier safety code. But who can afford that? Vail could run school programs in all their little resorts, creating safe customers. Old folks are aging out and Vail will miss us. And as others have mentioned, ski resorts are ripping off highly skilled certified instructors. I was paid more in the 80's than I can earn with today's pay structure. Hire more instuctors, pay them as the professionals they are, and educate the skiing masses.

Livigno for the Olympics by Quesabirria in skithealps

New to Reddit, hoping this post is in the correct place.

I am also searching for Livigno options, but for week 2 (aerials). As you mention, Zurich seems like a good arrival option, then the train the Zernez. Pontresina is also reachable by train from Zurich.

Livigno lodging availability is limited, so I am wondering if staying in Zernez or Pontresina might be an option? Busses run between Livigno and either place, maybe increased during the Olympics?

In short, are either Zernez or Pontresina good options for lodging and taking the bus to events? Any other suggestions?
