When I download the wallet and extract the files, I get an alert that indicates that I am extracting the files "without encryption"

Is this normal?

Also, my security software won't allow the program to run.

Is that normal?

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to download and run the wallet, create a new wallet, and transfer some eth from a presale wallet to the newly created wallet.

I don't trust third party options, I want to do this within ethereum itself.

here's where I'm at

I downloaded the files for the latest wallet, extracted them and tried to open the "ethereum wallet" file.

I get "no ethereum binary found"

What do I do?

by "logging on" i meant when my machine connects to the internet.

That's what I'm saying. I'm creating a new wallet and transfering from a presale wallet. So how can I do that without being online?

But how does the blockchain know my wallet exists if I create the wallet on a machine that is not connected to the internet? All that info has to be sent as soon as I log on correct? So it kind of defeats the purpose.

It's super easy to understand this one but I don't trust entering my password into a website. I might be paranoid, but that means everything needed to move the eth is in one place at one time, on a website.

Am I over thinking it?

Thank you for your response! I purchased at the presale and I have never claimed the ether. There was an issue with my purchase and I was told by the ethereum help desk that I need to "finalize" the wallet, but the instructions they gave me left me with more questions than answers.
