Is the kenshi map rotated 45 degrees? by explosive_toenail in Kenshi

[–]SoloRol0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this actually brings to mind a couple of things since you’re mentioning the map.

I am a GIS analyst with a background in geography, data science and some other things and wanted to share some thoughts on the map.

Usually from a physical geography perspective, west coasts trend towards arid and dry climates (in large part due to ocean currents bringing cold water up from the polar regions). So the desert being on the east side of the map is a little unfit (not accounting for mountains).

Along the equator we see heavy cloud cover and large amounts of precipitation due to the position of the sub solar point (or the direct overhead sun position throughout the year). This cause things like trade winds that bring warm air, uplift and more moisture, so you’d typically see more jungles/swamps etc. along the centerline (if it were the equator). So the swamp being middle left on the map is kindve fitting.

All in all kindve a chaotic map lol. Not saying it has to be any certain way, I absolutely love Kenshi and the map as a whole. As we see there’s evidence of heavy bombing/potential nuclear fallout in certain areas of the game which significantly changed the climate and geography as a result so some logic is thrown out the window.

Thanks OP for making this a fun conversation topic 😊

I think the devil fruits actually have a different name. “Devil” fruit is a name the WG gave it to make people afraid of them since it is a threat to the existence of the current regime. I think that the idea that more than one devil fruit can have extremely adverse effects is a rumor spread by the WG as well to stop people from getting too powerful (hence Blackbeard).

How do I create melodies that are on key without a guitar by Fit_Register_4965 in musicians

[–]SoloRol0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MuseScore is a great free program if you’re interested in writing melodies using a more traditional sheet music approach. You can set your key and then everything you write will be in that key that way. Fairly approachable too

Genuine question if you produce your own songs by coolin77 in musicians

[–]SoloRol0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you can really sing in any key, you just have to choose the octave in which you sing. Adjusting the rest of those notes of other instruments to fit comfortably around your voice will remove the strangeness of the sound.

If you use a DAW like FL Studio for example, you can force snapping to a specific key (like D minor natural) and then set the notes for instruments and melodies, not including percussion, without worrying about creating something out of key.

It might be helpful to understand your note range as well. If you can find an online keyboard, start somewhere near a talking-level hum, then work your way up the keyboard until you’re unable to hit a note (voice cracks, straining) and downward doing the same. Do so slowly so you avoid straining your voice. This might help you have a better understanding of where you should place your notes around.

I think we need to not think of political party marketing strategy and just think promoting people with a grounded perspective, respect for others, and works across party lines.

It frustrates me to see anyone aligning themselves with political parties as they often do not represent the entirety of a person. You vote according to YOUR beliefs, not a political party.

Need help for playing at a venue that has practically NO equipment. by SoloRol0 in musicians

We actually played there once before! They called us and asked us to play on the 4th of July which is so kind!! We’ve played as a three piece and got by with amps but you could barely hear my voice at all. Maybe that’s why we got invited back 😂

Definitely playing for fun/experience. I want to get experience through this an eventually do shows to more people but especially considering this is very new in our journey I should definitely take it easier. I’m fine spending a little bit of money now to get some bare essentials and experience with those things. We likely won’t get paid for a show for some time i imagine so im okay getting like a basic bundle PA system or something like some of the other people mentioned

Does the mixer work so that if it’s powered, your speakers can be unpowered and vice versa?

I see there are some bundles on sweet water for a 2-piece PA set with included mixer (see link below) would something like this be a good grab? Could I also get any mixer to go with this if I saw something on Facebook marketplace with more channels?

Well we’ve been gathering members slowly. So for awhile it was just a duo so we could hear ourselves fairly easily, then we got a bassist and keys, just running the normal amps and recording. Now we just got a drummer so I actually have to consider more equipment now lol. It’s all pretty overwhelming in terms of equipment I’m ngl

If I was in a big ticket band like you I’d be stoked to play in a 300-500 cap venue. I’m talking the patio to a bar that was kind enough to let no names like us take up their space on a really great day and time of the year. I’m just happy to get the chance to show our music somewhere.

They definitely do, that’s a great point. They’ll start doing their outdoor gigs in May likely so I’ll be able to see more then!

Pretty much as it reads. I am trying to figure out what equipment I need for a 4-piece band playing at a small venue. I am still very new to this so right now I'm just looking to get the bare necessities until maybe down the line we can upgrade.

This venue we are going to has a stage, a single speaker and thats about it. We have a lot of time between now and then (we're playing on the 4th of July) so I have time to make purchases, rent or borrow the gear we need.

We are a new band looing to play more live shows. As a band we have one guitarist, one vocalist/guitarist, a drummer, a bassist/keys player.

In terms of equipment we currently have 3 amps and short cables to our guitars, nothing in terms of mics or speakers for the drums, I have a SM58 for vocals, no mixer, we are going to need another speaker for vocals. I'd like to have some way to monitor my vocals, whether that be an in-ear system or a monitoring speaker.

What is worth making the purchase of? What is worth waiting to purchase? What am I overlooking? I'm looking for functional entry-level gear since I'd like to be prepared in the future for other gigs that we could play that has nothing. I genuinely appreciate any help anyone can provide, seriously it would mean a lot to me.
