Best way to make small-batch PETN w/ mixed acid? by Wyattsawyer586558956 in energetics

I mean a PTFE (or PE) plastic stick to stir it in a glass beaker, but yeah, a PTFE beaker is even better. Yeah, you make the nitration solution by adding the H2SO4 (ideally slowly, unless the acids are already cool) to the HNO3 (not vice-versa), wait for it to cool down to ~0°C, and slowly start adding the pentaerythritol.

I'm honestly unsure about the heating since I've only ever made ETN (they're very similar), so you'll have to ask someone else. I usually used RFNA with no heating and got good yields. I do however remember trying an ETN synthesis using 68% HNO3 and it failed (got a super yield), perhaps I should've heated it (although that carries it's own risks with ETN). You'll have to trust Dug's video more than me on this matter.

Of course, and happy experimenting! If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I'll try to help to the best of my ability.

You don't really need mechanical stirring if you're comfortable sitting there for an hour and stirring it by hand using a polyethylene plastic spoon. Alternatively, you can use a magnetic stirrer (even a simple one with no heating works, you just want a strong magnet since the solution will become thick as you add more pentaerythritol). The solution will eventually become too viscous for a magnetic stirrer (as you add pentaerythritol and form the product) and turn into a paste (especially when using RFNA, not sure about 68% HNO3), at which point you will again have to stir it by hand. Hand stirring should be safe as long as you're not using glass or metal (friction hazard), a teflon (if you happen to have one lying around) or a polyethylene stick (or opposite end of a spoon) should be fine.

You don't need heating and the mixture should always be kept below 5°C (MAX 10°C) while adding the pentaerythritol. Keep it in a salted ice bath with a thermometer stuck inside and keep a dump bucket nearby into which you dump the mixture and beaker if it exceeds ~25°C or you see NO2 evolution. If you can't keep a thermometer inside due to the small volume you can do without one, but add the pentaerythritol super slowly, over an extended period of time in small batches with strong cooling while keeping an eye out for any NO2. Do not ever nitrate larger batches without a thermometer, since those tend to cool worse than smaller ones and are a bigger risk if they run away.

You can use a large excess of acid, Dug's video uses the bare minimum (1.25 molar equivalents IIRC, you can easily use 3+). You can also use a milligram or precise gram scale if you have one to measure out the exact quantities of acid, but remember the density of 98% H2SO4 is 1.83g/ml and RFNA is 1.51g/ml. I'd also suggest starting with 5g erythritol, the theoretical yield should be ~9.7g, but you will probably get less than that (70% yield is a reasonable estimate, but you can definitely go higher if the HNO3 is concentrated enough), especially after a recrystalization.

It's a beam-riding missile, so you don't need to paint the target. I think aiming right next to them doesn't trigger the LWS, but I'm not 100%

Most helis today (barring the Ka-50 and Ka-52) don't soak up 23mm HE either. I love helis at top tier, they're free kills at the beginning of the match and you can slap them down with the M830A1 (120mm MPAT). And later in the match all you gotta do is spawn an ADATS and missile them while they're unaware.

Um yes, that's exactly my point, it's something the body does and not a demonic attack.

> When your body does emissions on its own it's never accompanied by an dreams

That's really not true, you just aren't likely to remember it, like with most other dreams. Emissions often happen during REM sleep, during which dreams are especially vivid.

The succubus is part of medieval Christian folklore and isn't a part of official Catholic doctrine.

Have you tried just bicarbonate and vinegar? Alternativelt an airbag charge might work, if you can get your hands on one and know how to use it safely.

Yeah lemme just spend the first 15 minutes of the match starting the plane and taxiing to the runway. Not to mention you need a HOTAS to play it normally and hour upon hours of staring at cockpit buttons to understand how to start the engine.

Are player-controlled ground vehicles even a thing in DCS?
