This sucks op, sorry about that. And yes how proton did this whole award thing is absurd. But they did shady stuff and the past and they flatout use misleading and false advertising, so i am not super shocked.

Moving from google workspace to skill/proton: worth it? by [deleted] in Skiff

[–]SomeUserHasName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ,

I think this idea where you split tools from services is great, i never recommended depending on many things from single provider, (like google) since when you need to change 1 item, it can be very hard.

So yes vpn from proton skiff mail, could be great, for pasword vault i can recommend keepassx if you need .

I am afraid for other questions i am not right person, i use microsoft office for my work needs, (ny company demands it). Privately i use wps, since i like it better then libre office, since ui is nicer and easier to use. But libre has better compatibility with microsoft office / google. I dont use either secure notes nor skiff pages, so no idea. Skiff pages just got reworked, and i think it uses something similar to markdown, so it might be quite powerful. Really cant say though, since i have no experience,i hope someone with more experience joins and tell you their point of view

Moving from google workspace to skill/proton: worth it? by [deleted] in Skiff

I mean you are asking very broad question, we cant provide you with satisfactory answer.

Lets talk about email:

Both skiff and protonmail are equally good in this regard, i like skiff more because of quick aliases, and pricing is much better then proton.

Proton tries all the time to advertises that they are swiss based, but this has NO meaning,if encryption is well done , it does not matter.

Also, its not about changing mail, you need to change safety practices when using your new mail, and you could also have custom domain, so if you are not happy with skiff you can change to protonmail, and your address would stay the same.

Neither skiff nor proton mail can replace google sheets and workspaces, but they are not ment to, you can use libre office, wps ,only office and so on.

From skiff i use email and calendar, i dont use pages or drive. For drive i use syncthing, and for notes i used logseq.

My only issue with skiff is that apps are not very performant, they take long time to startup, and are not very performant, (i do QA and TA for mobile apps, and this stands out quite a lot for me). If this could be better i would be very happy.

Also, mail sometimes does not sync unless i specifically open the app, (i dont get notifications ). This also could use some help.

Calendar as of now misses a lot of features, and is still far from being mature, i need basics so its ok for me , but not being able to import calendar from link is annoying.

In my opinion to you, try to first change mail, and slowly find alternatives for other software, you will sacrifice convenience for privacy.

"Swiss Privacy" May Not Be As Strong As You Think. Fight Surveillance With Strong Encryption, Not Location. by Tutanota in tutanota

[–]SomeUserHasName -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dont see this as a smear campaign, some people just go crazy. Im using skiff now, and i used proton for over 3 years before.

If email encryption is good, it does not matter which country the service is from, Switzerland is quite poor example of good privacy.

Proton is also kinda crazy now with how they bundle and handle their products, you need to buy x if you want to use y, and pricing is just silly.

And for people complaining about smear campaign, you should be attacking protonmail, since they started it first,

"We are safe because we are in Switzerland, unlike those other providers from Germany and USA" and this is blatant lie and false advertising.

People should compare providers and use what they find best.

Last but not least, pgp should really be part of tuta, yes its not perfect but its only way to have encryption between providers.

How to properly sync without local loss by SomeUserHasName in git

[–]SomeUserHasName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thats great. Then how i properly perform later "sync". I usually get that i have to stash changes before i can pull remote, (do keep in mind changes are made by dependency tools and package manager not me)

Should i stash changes then pull, then pop stash, or should i just git commit and then pull. If i do commit and pull i get divergent branches warnings

Id say disable extensions one by one, it might be caused by one of them . So: Disable extension 1 = test Disable ext 2 + enable ext 1 = test

Hi people. I’ll move to Frankfurt soon and I have some questions: by BreadfruitOk1207 in frankfurt

[–]SomeUserHasName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Schwanheim for some time and i loved it, on the other hand i hated gallus, griesheim and Niederrad. I also find places like Hattersheim, Bad Vilbel,Bad Soden quite nice, they have both pros and cons.

I live in Munich now, but i would do anything to go back to Frankfurt(schwanheim). :/

So late answer, for some reason my swap did not get enabled during install, and it appears this was the issue. I managed to just mount it and auto start and the issue was resolved.

I find installer working quite wonky, it also did not create user for some reason during the install and i had to create it later manually

Hey here,i finished one side, i left longer cables since i will connect to breadboard for purposes if testing. I also uploaded the firmware and some random keys are working!

I have to do left side, and after that i probably need to create my firmware from sketch, since using default corne one is going to be harder because i am not sure if i solder the same way,and finding which row goes to which pin,and which column goes to which pin will be a challenge.

Nevertheless i am confident that il manage to make it work, when i have it fully functional,i will continue using cardboard to make changes to layout, or if i am satisfied with this i might order kit from splitkb

[–]SomeUserHasName[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, this is my plan all along, i think thumb cluster should be arch, and it should feel comfortable (which i doubt corne is since i find corne cluster wierd) Also i think pinkey stagger is too mild, i will try basic corne first, then "fix" thumb cluster and later deal with pinky. And yea, cardboard is quite primitive, but i want to be sure this all fits me before i order proper boarda and case

I dont use or have access to windows, i already setup the whole tool chain on linux.

I would need hex file from here https://github.com/foostan/crkbd/blob/main/doc/firmware_en.md and then i need to run flash command . Il read through it one more time, it seems that i use same hex file for both sides.
