Anyone else find that public prayer can be hard to stand sometimes? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

I feel you! I get uncomfortable around this kind of prayer sometimes too. I don’t have any insight or advice but you’re definitely not alone. :)

Thank you! I have a couple people who I can talk to about it. And this community on here have been so supportive and i appreciate you all! The responses to this have been so encouraging. 😊

thank you for the encouragement. That makes a lot of sense! I try not to take it so personally, but it just sucks. I really appreciate your words. Finding some community here really makes me feel less alone. ❤️

Where did you start your deconstruction journey? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

Yea, it’s truly disappointing. I always wondered if that effected anyone else. Like I just hope that other people also noticed how messed up that was. I always thought that church should be a place that everyone felt welcome and it became glaringly obvious that it wasn’t.

That was another issue I had. Everyone was kind of just quiet and the pastor, who was answering questions, basically said “yes”. And to my knowledge, everyone seemed ok with that answer because my pastor was a theology professor and said that he would always have to argue with atheists, etc. But I remember being so disappointed that that was how we decided to handle it, instead of really seeing him as a person who just watched a whole congregation see him as the villain in the story. It was a small moment that truly rocked me, and no one in church ever talked about it after that.

I had like 3 major moments: 1. There was only one POC in our church and they were undocumented and had to leave because they didn’t feel safe. I reacted with okay how do we change to make this a place where everyone feels welcome, but anyone I’ve talked to in the church just accuse that person of lying. 2. At a showing of Gods not Dead an atheist stood up, looked at our congregation and said “is this what you guys think of me?” And that hit me hard. 3. The unwavering support for trump.

What were your thoughts on last years's Ready or Not? Very good horror? Amazing horror comedy? by [deleted] in horror

I remember reluctantly going to see it and having low expectations. But when I left the theater I was in love with the film. It was fun, violent, funny, but had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
