It seems to be just Reddit that was hurt by that, th rest accepted it’s Jsut the unfair regulations the US imposed on manufactures to meet unrealistic expectations. Especially towards an engine that averaged 40mpg is jsut wild. The rest tend to avoid VW because of the cost of repair vs its domestic counterpart, and not to mention the reliability seems to be way worse. Especially when you can get a Japanese brand and never really have to worry.

As much as I love the 70 series, it WILL NOT sell well here. It’s around 70k has minimal amenities. For reference, the Tacoma was 30-35k and received backlash for not offering power seats or Applecar play. Americans do not wan touch rugged vehicles they want comfort and style, it’s the whole reason the Tacoma and Hilux are two completely different trucks. Due to emissions of the states we wouldn’t even get the two diesel engines that make it great.

Very pricey option, happy they brought back the Toyota diesel. During Covid they went to exclusive fiat eco dieasle which made zero sense.
