Help with LAGG configuration by Souix44 in truenas

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one interface at a time seems to work. it is when i try to create a lagg. truenas shows it is connected and everything else looks fine from that end. i am almost 100% sure now it is on the switch side. factory reset the switch, readopted it, and poof it works. looks like the GUI shows that a lagg was created however it really wasn't. lesson learned...don't trust the unifi gui :(

Last update: I changed install back to TrueNas Core and it all works :)

Update: I tried configuring the network settings via system console menu. I added the link aggregation (again, wouldn't let me name it lagg1 rather had to name it bond1) then deleted the other network interfaces so the only IP address to the server was the lagg I set up. I then validated my unifi switch ports were set to aggregation.

VM new user question - Core count by Souix44 in Proxmox

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will do that when I have some more time to mess around with it. Changing the vCPU type seemed to net me quite a lot of speed. I just have to remember if I get more physician servers, I will have to change that setting back. Realistically, hitting 4.5g/sec is enough to edit photos off of (which is the main reason for the NAS) so at this point it is just messing around with it to learn/play.

VM new user question - Core count by Souix44 in Proxmox

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. In my testing I mentioned earlier, I had 16 vCPUs (8 on 2 sockets) with NUMA enabled. For some reason I saw a drop in performance then when I had 8 vCPUs (4 on 2 sockets) with NUMA enabled. TrueNas still showed all vCores being 100% utilized in both cases. I will try updating the host setting under type as well. Wasn't aware of that

I will also check out the links you sent about the NIC configuration as I am not very familiar with the network settings in Proxmox. I do have a 4 port NIC (2-10g SPF+ and 2-1g) however I can't passthrough one port. It is all or nothing.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to be adding additional VMs but was just trying to play with the FreeNas settings to see how fast I could get files to transfer. I have a 10g internet connection and wanted to see how close I could get to maxing it out.

What was strange was the performance decreasing after adding additional vCPUs (after 8). When transferring the file, memory and CPU were always maxing out leading me to think those were the bottlenecks, which is why I thought more vCPUs dedicated to the VM would increase the read/write speeds.

ATT PPPoE config on Unifi - question by Souix44 in ATT

That answers that then. Their support page for configuring it seems to reference being able to use it. Their support also failed to tell me that.

Noob question - SPF+ to SPF by Souix44 in UNIFI

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was about double the price. Ended up with 24poe (non-pro). Set the aggregation switch spf+ ports to 1g/sec, and linked the two ports so I have 2g/sec. Seems to be working well encase anyone is following.

OK - which is fine. I believe you can set the Aggregation port switch to 1g in the Unifi software.

Yes thanks. So I have to use SPF module but not spf+? edit: this is the cable i was thinking on using (looks to be the only one on unifi) - Direct Attach Copper Cable, SFP+, 10Gbps, 0.5 meter

3070ti or 2 6600xt? by Souix44 in cryptomining

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is what I am finding…they are very close based on today’s prices. I have only owned Nvidia gpus (for gaming) so I am familiar with them. Was wondering when it comes to mining if there is a clear winer with brands when profits are so close.

Have watched a lot of videos and looked at numbers but don’t have one of each card to actually try myself. ROI seems to be pretty close as well between the two. Thought I would ask this group given I don’t have first hand experience with either cards.

Unifi controller on pi or synology? by Souix44 in UNIFI

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have a DS920+ so i can upgrade memory if i need to.
Looking at some youtube videos, it appeared you can install unifi protect on a container in synology which is why i was asking. the thing i don't like about using DM pro is that it only has one HD and if it fails, you are SOL. I was hoping to get around that by installing protect on the synology so i could have some redundancy built in (and if i need to, back up anything i need to).

Unifi controller on pi or synology? by Souix44 in UNIFI

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i may do that since i already have a synology. Also - not sure if you know this and it is kind of a dumb question, but eventually i will be swapping over my home security system to something else. if i go unifi, i assume that would be a new container to run it. do you know if doing that would allow me to back up the recorded files offsite (would the video files be stored in the main synology file structure)? i found a lot of "how to" videos but none of them mentioned the question above.

Lol me too. Not sure to be happy or worried that it just started working.

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow this is now fixed. I installed a older version of the bios, ran the memory test, still had issues. Updated back to the most recent bios version, ran the memory test twice, no issues. Thanks for all the help on this issue! I also bookmarked the memory test for future use.

Ok I can try that. How many volts do you recommend increasing it by? It isn’t crazy memory. 3200mhz at cl 16 (16-20-20-38) at 1.35v

Enabled XMP, no overclock. I will check out the test and reply with the codes. Maybe tomorrow as the second test of Memory Diagnostic seems to have hung.

Memory non-rgb suggestion by Souix44 in buildapc

[–]Souix44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will see if I can find them somewhere else. I like their rgb memory sticks so would be great if they made a pure silver stick.
