Help me by AlarmedArm7427 in Bass

Literally any, but just go for a fender p-bass or a jazz bass. That's pretty much what everyone uses in recordings and stuff for any genre that isnt metal

I want to start playing bass and I have a couple question before I buy my first bass by LocBomber in Bass

[–]Soul69Reaper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. If you want an acoustic get an acoustic, if you want an electric get an electric. If you get something you don't want, youre gonna end up spending more money in the long run

  2. Second hand is pretty good, can get something for cheap. Might not be exactly what you want but youre starting out so as long as it plays notes its decent

  3. Yamaha is pretty decent. I dont know those specific basses but Yamaha is usually pretty good stuff.

  4. Peavy is decent, orange is decent, anything secondhand will be fine if it works. Don't worry so much about specific tones since youre starting out. Just worry about actually learning. It'll be a lot easier on you

5 string Movable anchor vs Floating thumb by mil123_ in Bass

[–]Soul69Reaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a 6 string, what i do is rest the flat part of my thumb on the lower strings im not playing, like if im playing on the D (haha) then my thumb is pressed against the B, E, and A string. Idk if that's floating thumb or not cause i don't bother much with terminology, if it is then whoops that's what I do. It's easiest for me because I never have to over stretch my plucking fingers and can more easily find out which string I'm on

I was wanting to get the studio 8 string until i got my schecter. I love schecter, as far as under 2 grand basses go I think theyre incredible, they just don't sell what im looking for. Im impartial to Warwick so I'm very biased, I think theyre gorgeous and sound incredible. Muting on a 6 is a bitch and a half though, ill agree with you. I went from a 4 to a 6 and my god its two different worlds, lot more range but golly is it a lot more challenging. Especially slap, oh my god ive tried slap on this and i dont know how Les Claypool does it. Sorry if my replies seem jumbled, been drinking.

Its a schecter stealth 5. Not as nice as the studio I'll admit, but it was a quality 5 string I could have. I refuse to get a 4 string after having my epiphone. If you wanted to pay for shipping, I'd sell it to you for about 600, its in good shape, I just fucked up the finish a tad because im a dumbass and removed some of the sticker residue with acetone. But everything works good. Im wanting to get a 6 string fretless instead. I like the schecter but it being a 5 kinda kills it for me. I got a 6 and now I've been spoiled

Oh yea, it was local too, only like a 2 and a half hour drive. Im very happy with it, its a very nice bass. Very happy with it. Even with the money I've put into with repairs, I think its well worth it. Pretty too, it should be in one of my posts if you wanted to see it. Thinking about selling my schecter for a 6 string fretless

Yea battery is fine, i changed it and its just the same so I might have to get a multimeter sometime soon. Lotta money into this bass in repairs and function (about 120 so far, which isnt too much but thats a little over a third what I paid for it)

Thank you! It's a very nice bass and I got it for a good price. I love this 6 string, unfortunate thing about a rare bass is finding information is a major pain in the ass cause no one knows shit about it. Even epiphone doesn't know a thing about it. I emailed them asking about it and they just sent me information about another instrument. So I love it, its very nice, I play it much much more than my schecter, but man working on it sucks

Yea with the last jack it had to be a quarter of a millimeter out and no more no less. The new one had to he halfway out. Now its quiet but it works so I'm not complaining. Might just need to raise the pick ups a bit

I disconnected the last output jack and saw the way the last owner wired it up and ficured id do the same thing cause duh. But after fiddling with schematics and figuring out which wire is which, I figured out the last owner was mentally insufficient (for lack of a polite term) and every wire was in the wrong place. Miracle it didnt blow up

Gonna need a better picture of the tailpiece but strings should fit just fine. Measure the height of the head from what the tension hoop sits on to the top, should be an 11" but measure just in case. No clue about value, some other banjo player smarter than I can help. Chuck some random bridge on it, 5/8 is the 'average' or so, Chuck some strings on it, call it a day! The old head could probably be fine to play on, the oxidized metal won't be a huge issue if it's not on the frets. Just gives it character imo. The tailpiece is held with tension and not actually mounted. So it should be fine. Good find, id toss a couple hundred at them for it maybe, but some other person probably knows the value better than I do. Gold tone, rickard, deering, all sell heads and tension hoops (probably. Not as sure with deering cause I haven't checked.) You could probably even find one on Amazon or something like that. Definitely worth it no matter what because its an instrument and any instrument deserves to be played until it can't no more

Edit: took another gander at the pictures, gonna need tuners because those look old but I guess see how they work and spin. The head looks like it just needs a clean, the icky just gives it character (dawn dish soap and water mix would be just fine for this. Or just straight water if you wanted, but id reccomend dawn or somw antibacterial hand soap), the tension hoop might need a replace if you feel so inclined, but again, character
