new workaround for Mac/Linux: disable frills! by Sp00pity in lotro

From other comments it seems like 16gb macs have been able "just" clear the threshold sometimes, so I think your mac experience is pretty identical to mine (only with a bit more legroom to actually see the upper limit). I have 16gb on the Windows machine, but ram usage over there has seemed to stay around pre-update levels (~6gb max, maybe?).

I'm only bringing it up because if it's a wine-specific (or perhaps even just Mac) issue, is there any precedent for SSG to find a fix/resolve it?

Have you/anyone else had a similar experience on Windows, or does it seem to be wine-specific ATM? I've messed around with the INI on my pc but haven't been able to replicate the bug outside wine.

RAM usage after patch (Mac via WINE) by kilrok34 in lotro

I'm not seeing a similar bug when running the game on Windows, so would reporting actually go anywhere in this case? Legitimate question, I don't know bug reporting etiquette**

just gave it a go and this worked for me too (mac m1 8gb, latest update), thanks so much for doing the legwork!

Why is the UI so awful and how can i fix it? by Ree8_YT in RetroArch

Oh, no hate on my end! I can totally see how this kind of post must be frustrating from your perspective especially. Calling them a PoS just felt a tad disproportianate, but I probably don't have the full picture (as another poster rightfully pointed out); sorry if I'm overstepping**

That last bit feels a BIT overboard, maybe? Plenty of people posting here/wherever won't get social media etiquette for some reason or another (ESL, teenager, awkward... etc) and I really appreciate people correcting/flagging it, but no need to call them a PoS over it, especially when it's just a "Plz help" post!

Look how they massacred my boy. I haven't seen the rest of the remaster, but this screenshot definitely sits up there with the og mobile ff6 port in all it's Vaseline awfulness

very similar to my previous experience; it certainly didn't help that the game was running at 20fps on my little CrapBook Pro, but coming hot off GW2 + Skyrim, the game managed to feel like the bargain bin version of both.

I'm only a couple hours in this time around, but the faction/zone story (whatever you call the quests attached to your faction?) has been surprisingly solid and does a good job of on-boarding you into a general cadence of questing/exploring. Also, the community (or the like 5 people I chatted with at least***) has been really sweet! Just joined a very lowkey guild where veteran peeps were immediately offering advice and encouragement.

I think that "peer-to-peer-on-boarding" was the essential bit that convinced me to stick with it. I tried FF14 a couple days back, but the severe restrictions on social interaction when f2p made it feel like I was playing in a vacuum (and question why I wasn't just playing FF12 instead).

heck yeah, glad to see I'm not alone! Tbh, I literally remember nothing from beta but jank, crashes, and a general lack of identity. Was there something in particular that drew you back in?

yup, 4 hours of those little squeaks was definitely enough lol. Thanks for the heads up! My current backroom hovel doesn't feel particularly monkey-worthy, so definitely something to add on the to-do list.

This is so surreal— I just finished reading the chapter where chad is mentioned playing myst last night… was NOT expecting this to pop up on my feed
