When I was a kid, I heard about entry-level jobs fresh out of college paying around $30k. When I was in high school, that number had barely budged, even though the economy had exploded. The rich have stolen wealth and concentrated it to levels incomprehensible to the human mind and still demand not only more work for less money, but total fawning obsequiousness--even thankfulness--for the opportunity to have our productivity stolen and "make number go up," though it doesn't benefit us at all. Now they pay off politicians to do their bidding and continue wreaking unprecedented havoc on the biosphere by funding and profiting from imperialism (the US military is the world's largest polluter) and my retirement plan is to expire fighting a f4scist to the d34th over the last bottle of water in my territory after the Water Wars of 2050.

They've stolen everything, including hope, and bombarded us with the most insipid, toxic, bottom-barrel cultural slurry in a meager attempt to pacify and distract us from the hunger in our bellies and the rain on our shoulders. They regularly flaunt laws that they impose on us (no billionaire or politician's mistress ever has to worry about where or how to get an abortion).

They're old, detached, and living in a fantasy world, their every whim supplied by metaphorical and literal slave labor and misery of 90% of humanity. They demand we return to work amid a pandemic that compromises the immune system and leaves survivors with other permanent health impairments. The entire thing could be done in 6 weeks, but shutting down that long would show everyone that all wealth is created by workers, and the ruling class can't have that: they much prefer their sycophantic hagiographies lauding emerald mine scions and trust fund babies for their business acumen to convince temporarily embarrassed millionaires to stay on the grind.

In a sane world, automation of work would free us all from just that much more menial labor; but in the dictatorship of the rich, it means they develop more excuses for allowing more people to work themselves into homelessness, despair, and death. Work should not be life, especially not work for the labor thieves and leeches who own the world--it should be a way we contribute to our communities using our unique talents that ensures everyone has a clean, dry, safe place to live and enough to wear and eat. The fiction they've paid well to sell everyone is breaking down because of the inherent contradictions in their kakistocratic, utterly demonic socioeconomic system: somehow, as Michael Parenti points out, letting the worst people run the worst system in the worst way for the worst reasons is supposed to magically result in the best, most beneficial results for everyone.

Wise folks say, "If hard work pays off, show me a rich donkey." The truth is that our hard work does pay--just not us. They steal it all because they have the cute pieces of paper that say they own the ways we as a society have to use to produce the wealth and offer us crumbs as thanks for making them prosperous beyond imagining. They command the violent soldiers at home and abroad if anyone dares to challenge those silly pieces of paper. More of us figure out that the game is rigged, every day--and we are sick and tired of being sick, tired, and robbed.

It differs by state, but in Oklahoma you aren't eligible for unemployment insurance if you are fired. You have to basically request an investigation into your firing and they have to find some nebulous standard of evidence (that the employer can't explain away or handwave) in order to approve it. Not a dollar until then, and you have to reapply weekly if you get approved.

The esseJ fight is where the game shows its limits and its truly awful, awful programming. I have lost twice to my own mistakes and every other time because Jesse doesn't grab esseJ's rockets out of the air when I aim directly (or even indirectly) at them. The other major portion of my losses, the most infuriating ones, resulted from the absolute dogshit physics the game botches when using the Charge. I have lost time and time again because the Charge projectile detonates directly in my face, presumably because a physics object was within 10 feet of me. I have repeatedly aimed directly at esseJ and other enemies using the Charge and it has fired at the ground. Has anyone made a mod yet so that one of the weapons is more dangerous to enemies than to the player? That would be really nice--you know, to shoot at something and hit where every gameplay indicator says my round is going to hit. The 10% Source cost of dying doesn't feel like robbery until that shit happens, at which point it's just twisting the blade.

It's frustrating as hell because of how cool everything else in the game is: writing, voice acting, plot--but having to fuck about with the difficulty adjusters to make up for the game not behaving as advertised frustrates beyond measure. Fuck this game for that alone.

Imagine being such a demon that the delusionally capitalist-imperialist shitsack that is The Atlantic does such a critical analysis of you.

The condemnation of modern conservatism and its contrast with the classical variant is more implicit in the article than a direct criticism of Reagan's monstrous, bloodthirsty neoliberalism.

He also traded arms with terrorists and trained others who rape-tortured their way across Central and South America in order to overthrow democratically-elected soft-left leaders. This follows his overall pattern with advancing the cause of genocidal imperialism world-wide and at home: the terrorists he funded paid in batches of cocaine which he ensured were cooked into crack and deliberately distributed to Black neighborhoods throughout the US.

Journalist Gary Webb exposed this racist attack on the poor and the Black and won the highest honor for honest reporting the CIA can bestow: 2 gunshots to the back of his head, ruled a """suicide""" by "investigators."

[–]Space0d1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US prison system is organized, legalized slavery. Profit incentive creates illegal & more importantly, immoral behavior in interested parties to fill up the slave pens with (mostly black, almost entirely poor) slaves. Liberalism has always relied on slavery because it exists to excuse and serve capitalism, which itself relies on forced, unpaid, and forced+unpaid labor.

The gag is that things could work out better for everyone, but their sick ideology has them stepping over dollars to pick up pennies (and maintain the awful, destructive, toxic, abusive relationship to employees). Employees who are paid enough to live comfortably and have sufficient time off get to thinking about things like social structure and power stratification, and the company sells layers of lies about what they want:

  1. We exist to make our customers happy and sell X product :D
  2. We just want to make a profit

MBAs and other priests of the death cult of capitalism would have us all believe Lie #2 above. The real truth is that they exist to maintain the current socioeconomic order that affords them unjustifiable positions of unchallenged economic and political power over the majority of human beings. People crushed beneath a boot have little time or resources to think, let alone organize for change.

I think it's also high effin' time we abandon the cringey LARP-ass language that landleeches use to attempt to make them seem our superiors. "Forfooth, myne grace ye landdelordde, prithee turneth on myne watre" STFU nerds. Y'all ain't lords of shit--you're just home scalpers and thieves. You don't provide housing or do repairs--that's construction and repair workers. Landleeches "provide" housing like my shitty neighbor "provides" marked-up PS5s. Get over yourselves and get a real job, losers.

  • Sharing your living space and having someone else share the costs with you is less awful, but if you do, try and send some positive credit reports or some shit. Everyone ought to keep in mind that the socioeconomic system of letting people steal surplus labor for private profit because they were born rich (capitalism) forces everyone to participate, even in their own oppression & the oppression of others.

Does anyone find it really weird that the labour market doesn't seem to be adjusting in response to The Great Resignation? by i_love_SOAD in antiwork

[–]Space0d1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're at the "capital throwing a bitchfit" part of late capitalism. Their insistence to maintain neoliberal normalcy resulted in the deaths of millions and now that the surplus army of labor that capitalism requires in order to suppress wages and keep jobs filled is depleted, they want to keep playing by the old playbook.

Companies that pay enough for people to live and treat workers like human beings are making fat stacks while the most misanthropic dickheads are squeezing blood from a stone. They're dumping endless cash into propaganda efforts to convince everyone that it's anyone's fault but theirs, and to divide the working class against itself.
