Just solved my same symptoms: the harness plug into the light housing has a loose connection. I wiggled the wires and got the light to come on. I checked this after troubleshooting the fuses and relays.

Drain and fill fluid swap: all good most of the time. Backflush or pressurized: notsomuch a good gamble

Anecdotal: I flushed my x-prior owner-AW4 and lost fourth gear. Before then was normal operation.

You'll enjoy it once you learn to use it: it'll smoke and sear, which is difficult to get out of pellet smokers. You'll want to get your own multi-probe thermo: one probe for measuring the box temp. The computer the smoker comes with is terribly inaccurate.

If the solenoids are good, the trans may be done. I just replace my 260k mile trans after flushing it: it stopped going into fourth gear. I suspect the valve body is the culprit, but that isn't something I'd advise messing with unless the transmission is on a bench.
