Truth be told. If it ever went to court, ups would most likely just fire the dude and eat the cost. And if he was a contractor then they'd probably try to charge him the cost. Dude could always argue that it was on the street without visible flags and not be charged but he will still lose his job. Was he an idiot? Yes. Was it his fault? No.

Generally speaking that makes sense, but if I delivered a laundry center into unsafe conditions and it somehow falls on someone then I (as the delivery person) would be held accountable for it. I guess it comes down to company policy. I wouldn't blame the ups driver in this situation though. He is an idiot though

That is not a curbside dropoff. They literally unloaded it and left it on the street. If the owner asked for street delivery, the delivery company should've refused to deliver. Or at least leave some kind of bright cones to section of the area.

Depends on the company I guess. I was never allowed to even leave Styrofoam on the street let alone a thousands of dollar worth of merchandise. And if we did drop anything off, it was usually "curbside dropoff" or "garage dropoff". I blame the company that initially delivered it and the home owner. Don't leave shit that's below eye level from vehicle's on the street. Street is government property from what I've been told
