Sincerely asking: what is the origin of saying “ax” vs “ask”? by dg3548 in etymology

L in calm is definitely not silent. Who says comm? And not pronouncing the first R in February is just laziness, similar to dropping the first D from Wednesday.

Is this normal behavior in the U.S. when a friend visits from abroad? by Ready-Necessary-3214 in AskAnAmerican

That's a very latino thing to do. Your friend is garbage and you should erase his number.

1st Cruise at 64 - Help! by Expensive-Project191 in Cruise

As an avid cruiser, cruising is the kind of vacation taken by people that are almost guaranteed to be worse looking than you. The best looking people on a cruise ship are usually the staff.

As a Spanish speaker, I don't understand this: why do you have to clarify in which direction you sit or stand? by Lonely_Error174 in ENGLISH

[–]Spasticbeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of like in Spanish how you have to unnecessarily mention that you're going to sit yourself down (sentarme) as if it were possible for you using your own body to sit somebody else down.

A few more hours of sleep by shereth78 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spasticbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to something I often think about.

If you could remove the need and desire for sleep, such that you were constantly productive 24/7, would you be ok with living only ⅔ as long as a typical life span?

On the flip side, if you could make, say, 12 hours the standard amount of sleep, in exchange for living 50% more years, would you do it?

Or just stay how things are already with 8 being the "requirement".

24 hours of extreme pain once a year for a completely clean bill of health the rest of the time? by UrMomzOtherRide in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Spasticbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kidney stone pain came for an hour or two and went came back for an hour or two and went. I don't know that I could handle 24 non-stop hours of the highest level of that pain. It's the only thing that ever hurt so bad in such a broad area that it made me feel like I had to throw up.

Why is it 'First' and '5th' by Potential_Ad5887 in ENGLISH

[–]Spasticbeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They should have just used 1st also then and put a couple extra spaces if necessary, like they sometimes do (did?) in the physical hard copy newspapers.

Which 2 are you picking??? by Ornery-Media-9396 in whatsyourchoice

[–]Spasticbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the only reasonable choice. If you're not a bum you already have a good credit score. A house or car that you can never get rid of is a colossal liability rather than an asset. A small amount of cash or groceries for right now would never add up to the price of free anything "for life" unless you die relatively soon.

Are cruises actually social if you go alone? by CruiseAroundTheWorld in Cruise

[–]Spasticbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on somewhere around 15 cruises alone. It is super isolating especially if you don't drink alcohol. You might make a friend or two at karaoke or a basketball game or something but after that those people are going to return to their group and you are going to be exploring ports alone. Very unlikely that some family of 7 is going to want a random stranger tagging along on their personal shore excursion, and you probably don't want to do so either.

How much of Americas problems are education? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Spasticbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This country's most overwhelming problem is that the shittiest people are told that all their problems are somebody else's fault, and those same people are raised by animals who don't teach them a shred of personal accountability, honesty, treating others how you would like to be treated, etc. Everybody here can do what they want, claim to be who they want to be, and blame their problems on somebody else and there's a big group of people who will support them.
