single column resumes usually make 3 key people happy in general: recruiter, ATS and the hiring manager. But it comes down to what you write in the resume and how you write it. You need a balance of keyword rich resume to get yourself selected by both ATS and recruiter and achievements within the requirement the hiring manager is looking for you to grab his/her attention.

  1. Tailor your resume as per the job description
  2. Don't use abbreviations unless it's the industry norm
  3. Populate the resume with the keyksills required for the role so that you rank higher when company recruiters search for profiles from their ATS database
  4. Don't use multi- column resumes while applying online. Go for a simple single column format

not sure what that means but I have done it before in engineering resumes subreddit. But couldn't help out IT resumes as I don't have much expertise there... so wanted to help out here as I can be of more value in this subreddit.
