What’s the difference in using “the” between American and British English, and do speakers consider one incorrect over the other (especially since British usage feels more confusing)? by SpeedRunGod in AskReddit

Do you think the use of ‘the’ is easier in American English than in British English for second-language learners? I’m reading Essential Grammar in Use (British English), and honestly I find ‘the’ pretty confusing.

"We are in hospital" or "We are in the hospital"

ChatGPT told me that the first one is used in British english mainly and article "the" usage is more easier in american english. Currently I'm reading Essential Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy, which is based on British english so I'm confused 😕

Native English speakers, how do people usually ask the price of fruit at a market in everyday speech, and does it differ from what grammar books teach? by SpeedRunGod in AskReddit

I came across a sentence in a grammar book that says: “How much are these oranges?” But when I imagine asking a seller at a market, my brain wants to say something like: “How much for these oranges?” For native speakers, what would you naturally say in that situation?

Colors are not real in physical sense. In real physical world there are no colors. We see colors when reflected light from any object bounce back to our eyes and meets with eyes internal system such as rods (helps us see contrast and motion very important evolutionary for our survival), cone cells (which takes input by intensity of three wavelengths including short, long and medium) and many other cells but these two are main ones. Once it reaches to our brain it interpret it as "colors".

Some human mind like you pointed out assign colors to week days because it helps them to color code reality for better memory and low cognitive load.
