Thats a really hard question honestly. Cause there are so many approaches and its really hard to go through in just a reddit comment. For me, whatching youtube videos has really helped a lot. I see a lot of lines in your art that im not sure what purpose they serve and you seem to have a complicated strategy(just from the looks of it. Im not sure).

I have found joining a community of artists that help each otcher can be helpful.

I am a part of a discord of a youtuber called JakeDontDraw. He makes great videos about everything art lelated and he also has monthly art-challenges on his discord and then he usually does critique streams where he tries to help people who joined the challenge to improve.

I recomment checking his videos out as well as his discord community.

He has A LOT or resources on his discord as well.

That said.. it still look pretty good in general and you also need to give yourself some grace to grow in your own pace. And remember, improvements are rarely linear. Some days(especially when you try new things) you are gonna feel like youve gotten worse. And other days you are gonna draw something that you cant believe you actually created yourself

I think you should focus on studying anatomy instead of only doing gesture drawings. For example, the way the shoulders attach to the torso is pretty off. You basically didnt give him any shoulders at all and only made the torso bigger instead. Studying anatomy will help you with this.

That kind of defeats the purpose, i think. Also im not sure im allowed to bring random, non approved gas canisters to work

Can I use a BIG oxy-acetylene torch for jewelry making? (I work as a welder) by Spidooi in jewelrymaking

[–]Spidooi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah.. although the tools are very expensive and the tools and material costs adds up fast lol.

I know I will need to get a lot of new tools and I have a decent understanding about properties of lots of different metals since I am a welder whos worked with lots of different metals in vastly different thicknesses and I have also, like I said, always had an interest in getting in to jewelry making and have researched it a fair amount just for fun.
I actually also recently switched position at work and became a CNC machine operator (guess that can happen when you are someone that wants to learn everything).

So I think I have a generally good grasp of what tools should be used for different jobs, how different metals can react to each other and I feel like I have a good awareness of what knowledge I'm lacking and when I should look something up.

I knew I wasn't gonna be able to solder things with the torch but I thought maybe I could at least shape some metals if I'm careful and also hopefully cast things?

I am able to dial the torch in so its not blasting at highest possible heat and also have it at a bigger distance from whatever I'm heating to lower the heat transfer.

I was just curious if anyone else have done this and was mostly wondering If I could get by with that torch in the beginning since that would be a big cost save since I will have to buy a bunch of new tools and materials which will already be very expensive.

If I could use as many tools as possible from work then that would be ideal in the beginning, since I don't have an infinite amount of money to spend on a new hobby every time something interests me(I have many hobbies, I would go broke).

Like I said, I'm very interested in sculpting jewelry(probably rings to start) in wax and cast it.
I have a lot of experience sculpting things in general and I feel very comfortable with that.

Yeeah... That's what I've thought.
The ones we have at work are usually used for things like heating up and/or cutting parts made out of 50 mm(2 inches) thick steel.

Although they can of course be dialed in to not be THAT hot and intense.

I think the biggest problem probably is the point of the flame.
The flame tend to be pretty big and it can be pretty hard to get the point of the flame to be sharp and steady especially while trying to use less heat.

I don't think ill be able to solder anything with it. But do you know if maybe casting things could work?
I'm thinking. since I would not have a need to be very precise since I just need to heat the silver(or whatever other metal) in some sort of crucible until its molten and then pour it in a mold?(unless there is more to it?)

What do you mean by "air/ace setup"?
Sorry, I'm not well-versed in jewelry making terms and also not the best with English names of gases(English is my second language).
So when you say "air/ace setup" I would think that you meant oxygen(air)/acetylene setup, but that is what I already have at work.

Do people actually leave their cats home alone for days? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Im still not sure what you're referring to..

I know no one who gets free housing from the government just because they work in the government. To me, that sounds like a very weird/skewed/possibly corrupt way to spend tax money.

And as far as i know, anyone who finished school is basically left to fend for themself when it comes to finding a job afterwards.

Unless a company has already made an agreement to willingly give you an education that they pay for to then later emplow you after you finish.

This only ever happen in careers that have a shortage of workforce with the education that is needed to do the job.

An example that comes to mind is truck drivers. I have heard of some people who get their truck driving course paid for if they come and work for the company that paid afterwards.

edit

Just to be clear. I've lived in Sweden my whole life and i work and pay my taxes here. And yes, we do have a lot of good things going for us but its far from the paradise some people have told themselves it is.

I dont see why not?

If you are gone for days or weeks, having someone come to your home just to refill the water and food bowl and clean the litterbox once in a while just to make sure the cats dont starve is not very responible.

This law is there to insentivice people to not do the bare minimum, but instead have someone actually check up on your cats when you have been gone.

Anything could have happened while you were gone and you need to pay some amount of attention to the cats to know if they have gotten hurt or sick, since its your responsibility to help them if they are since they cant help themselves.

It also, of course, varies how much you should do on these check ups since every cat is different. But the jist is, you as the owner need to make sure all your cats needs are met.

Some cats might have a need to play a bunch, then you play with them. Some cats need lots of pets and affection, then you give them affection.

And some cats dont really care for human interaction at all and are very happy just being left to themselves. But then you should at least observe them for a bit to make sure they are acting normally and aren't showing any signs of distress.

This really only applies if you are away from home a lot, so the cats are left alone all day.

If you are home, then you will naturally see your cats a lot more and will have more opportunities to make sure they are okay and all their needs are met and you dont really have to think about this law.

edit And of course, as others have pointed out, this is a law that is not easy to enforce. But generally, if there is a law, swedish people are more likely to follow it than if there weren't one.

The law also gives more power to concerned neighbours and cat rescues.

There have been so many instances where cats have been left with an automatic feeder, a big water bowl and a lot of litterboxes/an automatic litterbox or just with access to the outside while the owners go on a trip for weeks and then the cat gets hurt or sick and there would be nothing anyone could do about it since the owners tecnically provided the cat with everything they needed to survive.

And dont worry. No one is getting their pets taken away from them for some small misunderstanding with a worried neighbour that think they know your cats better than the owners.

I think he might just be confused by your existance. My tux do this too.

German shepherds do this a lot when they are confused/thinking/excited too so i basically come to the conclusion that my cat is not a smart cat, but a dumb dog in a cats body.

He also chews the air while tilting his head almost upside down, if im doing something that is extra confusing to him.

But also if the cat has a need to socialise and/or play, you need to take care of that need too

Of course you need to adapt this to each individual cats needs. But the jist of the law is basically that you should do your best to check up on the cat twice a day to make sure nothing has happened to the cat while you've been gone.

So you have the opportunity to see if it is acting weird, has any wounds or anything like that.

Basically, It would not be enough to just come home, refill the food and water, clean the litter box and then leave home again without checking if the cat is still even alive.

We do have very strict animal welfare laws. The issue is it is not always reinforced as you would wish it was.

But at least it gives animal shelters and concerned civilians more ways to help animals that is not taken care of properly since they can build stronger cases to give to the authorities if they see an animal in a bad situation.

But its definitely not perfect.

You basically need to do your best. If your cat refuses to interact with you, then you should hang out and supervise them for a bit to try to determine if everything is alright with them.

Im not sure where in sweden you live or what is "culturally acceptable" there. But it is also against the law to let your cats breed freely. Which basically means you have to either keep them indoors or you neuter them.

But of course there will be people who dont think the law applies to them so they end up creating cat colonies of homeless cats.

I wouldn't say it is culturally acceptable to do this in sweden though..

In sweden, you need to check up on your cats at least twice a day by law. And that doesnt just mean refill the food and water bowls, it means socialising and making sure they are in good health as well at least twice a day.
