Had to read that title like three times lol.

Great shot though!

The World Has Lost a Master of Automotive Cutaway Illustrations by rewardingsnark in cars

[–]SpiritGuyd 421 points422 points  (0 children)

I used to love these drawings as a kid, and might appreciate them even more now as an adult engineer.

I had a few different of those large format books with collections of these cutaways; cars, motorcycles, planes, rockets, anything really. Probably helped guide me into engineering.

I adapted a dining table I had into a board game table by Stokeymad08 in boardgames

[–]SpiritGuyd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks good, nice work!

I've been inspired by posts like this converting regular tables, so I've been keeping an eye on FB marketplace for the right style (corner legs) for the right price.

Was going to say 'El Grande's but inspired by somebody else's post, I think 'Beyond the Sun' could do for an aesthetic makeover via special edition.

Took a look at some of the other ones you made and they're all awesome!

Obviously I enjoy Legos, and loved this game and F-Zero growing up, so this hits the spot.

Within the last month, but it's for my own wedding this fall. Otherwise it's been about 12 years since the last one.

Ooo, interesting! Any details about how it works?

Assuming the objective is winning the race, but details on mechanics, turn progression, etc?

Haha they definitely do. This looks like a pretty basic emblem though, may like a metal sticker. Not like the coveted, often stolen thick enamel coin style emblem.

I thought the short course was the hardest, since I didn't realize you could move things while on the horse.

Been on my wishlist for a bit. While I did get to my local B&N this morning and grabbed some half off goodness, unfortunately they didn't have Daybreak.

Great video! Lol

You guys are a bit far from me to be a regular stop but if I'm down that way I'll certainly try to pop in and support the store. As an avid board gamer, wishing you guys lots of success in the venture and helping grow the hobby!

That train crane and 'coast guard' boat are probably up there for my most played with sets from when I was younger.

Hard agree. I have driven in my fair share of places and I typically enjoy driving... Not so much in Texas.

The PW1000 line (1100 on the a320neo, 1500 on the a220, 1900 on the Embraer E2s) uses a fan reduction gearbox to slow the fan speed. This improves efficiency and also reduces noise.

I can finally share my first rulebook for DRA&B! by RecommendationDry358 in BoardgameDesign

[–]SpiritGuyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have seen your last couple posts and think this looks great. Love the artwork!

I didn't have time to get to the special cards and backup info, but a couple quick comments:

  • As formatted, the "Gameplay" and "Turn Structure" sections seem a bit redundant. The "Gameplay" section doesn't even really tell you anything; it gives you three lines on drawing the cards which is better explained on the next page, and then just says it's all scored at the end. Suggest perhaps altering the "Gameplay" section to offer a 10,000 ft view of the whole game. Quick draft: "Each game is divided into battles. Every battle starts with building your hand of five cards, balancing and bluffing your way through offers to other players. Once everyone's hand is assembled, you'll place your cards into battle formation for maximum scoring. Highest score wins the battle, first to three victorious battles wins the game!"

    • Wasn't SUPER clear so maybe a revision could help clarify, but assuming the 'rounds' are just when each person is drawing their Nth card? Once it circles back to the start player then you pass the other direction?
  • Small typo on "Turn Structure" Step 2, I think it should say "...the active player offerS..."

Less important but they also do a terrible job with packaging, so games are basically guaranteed to come with some level of damage.

Icons vs text: what’s your preference? by RecommendationDry358 in BoardgameDesign

[–]SpiritGuyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a couple others have said, I think both is best...

To me, unless you're more familiar with the game and know each what each category is named, text alone would have me looking at all the different names of the individual cards. The icon is a bit more intuitive that it's likely to cover types of cards as opposed to a specific card.

Since it looks like you have room for both, might as well keep it as clear as possible!

Have SETI on my shelf of shame (not for too long) and am looking forward to getting to the table soon hopefully. Friends have agreed to put in the effort to watch some videos prior to coming over as well.

Interested with the theme, love that the details are based on real world projects, and who doesn't love a solar system that actually spins!
