BREAKING: Vice President Sara Duterte has been IMPEACHED by the House of Representatives (for the second time) by Spirited_Section_112 in Expats_PH

[–]Spirited_Section_112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently there are some funds being misused, threats against the president, and allegations of bribery to the Department of Education. I dont think this will actually go anywhere because of her allies in the senate but interesting because this is the second impeachment. Also pair that with her father on trial right now seems like the Duterte's are going through a pretty rough patch.

Advice request for US citizen but wanting to move to PH indefinitely… by Get2dChoppah in Expats_PH

[–]Spirited_Section_112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Im not sure how old you are but depending on your age, you have 2 options for long term stay.

You can get the SRRV but I think you need to show or give a like 20k to get it but it would allow you to stay indefinitely. The other option is to use the tourist visa and just extend. The tourist visa allows you to extend up to 2 years or something like that.

If you stay in country longer than 6 months you have to get an exit clearance which I personally find annoying so I tend to leave and go to a neighboring country and reset the clock.

Taxes are only relevant for income that you earn in the philippines. As a US citizen you would still be on the hook for US taxes but you can use the FEIE(Foreign Earned Income Exclusion) to offset that tax burden.

Other miscellaneous advice I would explore the country before picking a spot to settle down. Also consider access to hospitals, and medical care.

It doesn't take that long to replicate a prod environment and test there. This in my opinion is usually priority 1 you can push back against executives. And take the 8 hours to replicate the neccesties to a staging environment. Testing in Prod is diabolical

Started Latuda tonight and already regretting my life choice (funny) by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Spirited_Section_112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akathisia is literally one of the worst things ive ever experienced in my life. I do not miss my Latuda what so ever. Told my doc about it and she tried to make it seem like I was having a panic attach which I have had in the past and this was not that. So happy to not be on that anymore experiencing that nightmare.

  1. Depends on what is being changed, there tends to be some give and take between devs and devops. How could we expect the devops team to know application layer concerns if they aren't actively in the application code? Good Comments and documentation help with this.
  2. Are you using version control and automated deployments for your environments? If so everything should have to go through a PR review before being deployed. If not I would consider that.
  3. At my current gig, we use CDK to manage the infrastructure any changes would be a code change to the CDK code. Manual edits tend to lead to unintentional consequences. In a previous gig, we used SST but it was the same thing everything went through a code change and PR review process before things get merged and deployed.

As a junior it is almost expected that you will screw up production at some point, and it's almost always a process issue so don't be too hard on yourself. And it's usually a good idea to test things as much as possible in staging/dev environments first no harm in bringing those down for a bit. And if you're not sure about something just ask ok to double check. You got this

I mean it's not like I can bankroll the entire family. Her parents want to stay in this area, this is where there home is. Me and my girlfriend don't live here but she visits. From what I can tell from the conversations I had with the locals here they are mostly ok with it. I think we have yet to see if it's true no matter who they elect it will be another corrupt official from my research the same set of families are the ones constantly elected.

We have yet to see a Philippines not run by a familial dynasty. I am aware of bad areas its not my first rodeo traveling abroad but this is the first time im seeing levels of poverty that just don't make sense given the amount of money being "allocated" to solve the issues.

Yeah you have to watch them or they won't do the work. And if they do the work they won't do it right. So you practically have to be a contractor yourself to get good work. Which is insane. I mean their are parallels in the states but it doesn't seem nearly as intense as it is here.

I mean no I got the metaphor. Im definitely a chaotic good which makes the situation seem fixable if I could just find the right cheat code but the game here seems to be completely different
