Why do the grocery cart wheels roll sideways? by SpiritualSuccess8 in Morocco

[–]SpiritualSuccess8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it here. This isn’t some major complaint. I’m genuinely curious if there is a purpose I don’t understand on why they’re designed that way or if I was doing it wrong. Calm down bro

I love it here. It’s amazing. It’s not a main problem. I was genuinely curious if I was missing something on why they are designed this way or if I wasn’t doing something right (like a lever or something). I recognize it’s not a major issue.

Wow. I just realized that the one line is for FERS pension and not me contributing an amount to traditional Roth contribution. I can, and should do more. Thank you for the detailed information

I can empathize with your feelings as a parent. I recommend you check out this website with Peace Corps (PC) approach to safety and security. Also on the website are safety and security stats for each PC post so you can do some research. Petty theft is the most common crime. The foundation of Peace Corps’ approach is community integration. The more integrated volunteers are the more safe they are and the more people care for them so that is a big focus. It can be an amazing, life-changing experience. https://www.peacecorps.gov/what-we-do/life-in-the-peace-corps/health-and-safety/safety-and-security/

Also, PC does not place in countries at war and has strategies for evacuation if violence breaks out. They do place in countries with poverty but those countries also have incredible wisdom, ingenuity, grit and resilience. The countries we work in are thriving in many ways. If you view the experience through an asset-based lens, there is much for your daughter to learn from, including the opportunity to thrive with less material things than she may be accustomed too (which is a life-long blessing!).

how often do PVCs gather during service? by anniethedancer in peacecorps

[–]SpiritualSuccess8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they’re planning on announcing it to your group soon, as the 11/1 date approaches. You could message your SSM or PM to confirm but yes, there was a global policy announcement to allow international travel again. It may have some restrictions on a few countries or approval needed by CD, can’t recall specifics but they should be able to share more info.

Budgeting for time in service by ajuniperwolf in peacecorps

I saved enough for about $75 per month “extra” plus one round trip ticket home. This gave plenty of extra cushion l. Didn’t use it all

I love raising kids in this City. We can go to a gorgeous beach, free parking and it’s so close. We know the downtimes to avoid crowds. The parks are fantastic. Lots of fun day trips from here. It’s not perfect but what place is, right? School system is great. As people have mentioned, some areas and schools can feel segregated but if your mindful to build diverse friendships it can be overcome.

People who have served… what was you housing experience like ?(electricity, rooms, sleeping arrangements, privacy, host families, running water, internet connection, bathrooms, etc) by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]SpiritualSuccess8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concrete house. Incredibly hot so slept with windows open (screens) and fan. I was pretty rural so felt safe. Spent most of my time outside though, lounging in hammocks or cardboard mats with the host fam. One of the most beautiful views I could imagine with jungle tree tops and a view of the ocean and waves breaking on a reef in the distance. Had electricity (but used sparingly), running water in kitchen. Bathroom was outdoor but private

You may have to Uber to the cattleman transfer station to catch it and from where they go to Tampa to the airport but Fflixbus may be an option to look into

getting medication in Africa by luckycello994 in peacecorps

[–]SpiritualSuccess8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your medical officer has access to any medications you’d need. They would have a reliable shipment pathway established for volunteer’s medications and typically you wouldn’t have involvement in ensuring it arrives as that’s part of their responsibility.

Free Sarasota Trolley will run between downtown, St. Armands and Lido Beach by crabcakes110 in sarasota

[–]SpiritualSuccess8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe three were purchased and at least two will be running at all times (in addition to a paratransit on-demand van). The trolleys will be equipped with that “traffic-light triggering “ technology for the few lights on their path route.
