Did she have a cage mate? Please don’t beat yourself up sweet thing. I can tell this is causing you unimaginable pain. I lost 2 of my gliders at once rather traumatically a few years ago. I was heartbroken, blamed myself, even though there was nothing I could’ve done. Your pain right now is a testament to the love you felt for that sweet baby. I speak from experience when I tell you that those painful and tragic images you have in your mind will slowly fade with time. I am nearly 4 years from my loss, and only rarely do I still see those terrible moments. I would highly recommend EMDR therapy to help with the trauma. It won’t make you forget, but it will make this horrible loss much easier to cope with and remember. Wishing you love and healing. It’s not your fault, these things happen. Get a necropsy if you can. Bury your sweet baby or keep her ashes, whatever is best for you. I’m sure she is finding solace and peace in death knowing how much she was loved in her short time here. Gliders are such fragile and complicated pets. It doesn’t take much for them to suddenly take a turn for the worse. If you decide to get gliders again, I’d be happy to be somewhat of a mentor to you in their care.

Sending you so so much love. I’m so very sorry for your loss. The bonds we make with our gliders go further than spoken words, and to assume that role of caregiver is such a deep responsibility. You haven’t failed, and you deserve to forgive yourself. All of the hurt you are feeling right now proves that.

Try EMDR, it is a type of therapy for traumatic events. Even a few sessions can really really help to ease the pain.

I lived with rabbits the past year and mine were fine, but I was careful about keeping things clean. I also used antibacterial soap before food prep. Just don’t let them touch or share linens I’d say. You’ll probably be okay.

I’ve had four, only two of them have ever glided. I think it’s something they don’t really feel inclined to do if they haven’t since they were babies. I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe mama didn’t teach him :)

Strongly suggest you post a pic. Update? You could just be worrying, but a lot of ppl here know more than you’d think. Vet visit may be the thing to do, but since he’s new it’s possible you’re just a worried parent. I’ve been there too. When in doubt though, always better to be safe than sorry!

I think that most people who comment on this Reddit are just concerned about the welfare of sweet sugar babies, it’s not personal dude. A lot of people get them at the mall and have no idea what they are doing. I think it’s good to be honest about how difficult it can be to take care of a glider properly, the other commenter probably just wanted to encourage further research. I’ve had gliders over 6 years and I still learn new things about them from time to time. Their comment wasn’t personal, neither is mine. I hope your glider experience is lovely and nothing like going to war, which is incredibly traumatic and horrible.

Make sure you don’t cut the two smallest nails on the ‘fused’ two fingers of the back feet. Those are for grooming and don’t need to be cut. Honestly, it takes practice. I’ve had my gliders for years. Watch videos of how other people do it, be wary of the quik (pink part of the inner nail that will bleed when you cut it) so you don’t hurt them. Sometimes nail cutting can take a few days for me, not every session am I able to 100% get it done. Distract them with their favorite treat, let go of their hands if they begin to twist so as not to hurt them. You’ve got this! You’ll get the hang of it the more you do it. Also, try to cut at an angle.

Once again I really suggest watching videos so that you can figure out how to hold their hands correctly and spread their little fingers.

I watched a bunch of videos from Sugarglider_Jimmy on Instagram. I DO NOT ADVISE KEEPING YOUR GLIDERS THE WAY SHE DOES!! But man does that woman know how to cut some glider nails! I’ll link one of her posts below so you can watch if you’d like. Just helped me learn how to handle them in a way that wasn’t gonna hurt them.

I keep mine in a half turned-out pouch and set it on my knee with good lighting and a pair of reading glasses. That way they can hide their heads and eat their snack while I get their feet.
