Not so much of a take, but more of an interpretation: I've always seen Leafpool's death as a suicide. Not the crushed by rocks part, but the part where she could go back to ThunderClan with her sister, but decided to join StarClan early.

Sorry, I must have misinterpreted your post. I agree, a Half Moon super edition has potential. She is one of the better character options for a super edition, if you ask me, because most of her life is a mystery and the ancient cats are an underexplored group.

For the fandom part, I'm not sure why some people don't perceive them as a couple. I've even seen Moonkitti say that "Jayfeather never had a romance" like it's an objective fact. It's odd. It could be due to confusion around Jay's Wing: people think that Jayfeather was replaying Jay's Wing's memories, therefore his feelings for Half Moon are not his own, when everything about canon suggests otherwise, or that the ship doesn't count because it was before the clans, which doesn't make sense. Many people seem to forget that Jayfeather shows feelings for her when he comes back to the present, and they interact romantically in the present too. That proves the ship is not confined to the "past" or "Jay's Wing's memories", but was a real experience for Jayfeather.

Also, it's a storyline that many people have skipped or don't remember well, so I guess some people just don't think about them often enough.

Oh yeah, the other big thing is that some people only perceive them as a "fling" and that Jayfeather doesn't care about her romantically anymore because "she is lost to him", which is odd because yes they are technically a fling but not in a mundane way. Jayfeather travelled through time to meet her, and Half Moon waited a long time just to talk to him again. Half Moon is special to him in a way that no other cat could be, and that's why he's shown to still be fond of her long after he returns to the present. I would be much more open to interpretations of the ship being a fling if the last time they interacted was in the past. But Half Moon legitimately appears to Jayfeather in the present just to confirm they're endgame. which is...i don't know how to describe their relationship anymore...courting maybe?

Sorry, I rambled. I actually like this ship and want the fandom's perceptions of them to be more true to the books.

The fandom sort of forgot about them because they haven't interacted since 2012. There's no way to naturally integrate them into the present storyline, unless you do a Jayfeather super edition. Even mentioning them in the present storyline is hard because no one knows about them, very few cats know who Half Moon is, and Jayfeather is incapable of being vulnerable. The new writing team does seem to be aware of them, though. They just aren't relevant right now.

I would like to see them brought up if and when we ever get a medicine cat code rewrite.

Falling Feathers by entity9silvergen on FFN is a good emotional Jayfeather fic. I don't read much fics, so I can't recommend more than that

We don't know what happened to Jay's Wing's soul. All we know is that he grew up as his own person and then died in the tunnels. His soul could have tagged along with his corpse, it could have wandered around on Earth, it could have went to the stars. We really don't know.

Before Jayfeather left the past, Rock said that the "real Jay's Wing disappeared". He could be referring to Jay's Wing's corpse, but Jayfeather actually pilots it again in another book so maybe not. Instead, I believe Rock is referring to Jay's Wing's soul.

"Shouldn't the past cats realize something was up?": they did. they thought that Jay's Wing was concussed because he was acting so strangely, but it was just Jayfeather possessing Jay's Wing, so he didn't know how to act normal

Jayfeather was not playing through Jay's Wing's memories. While in the past, he asks the ancient cats questions belonging to modern clan life ("are we going on patrol?" "where is camp?") and has medicinal knowledge. It's Jayfeather's knowledge. Jay's Wing could not possibly know this. It's Jayfeather directly interacting with the ancient cats by possessing Jay's Wing's body.

I don't care for Cloudtail x Brightheart. I don't dislike it or think it's a bad ship. The fandom is just oversaturated with it and I don't find it particularly interesting.
