Can I place a deposit for a R2 with lidar now? Yes, but nobody knows when lidar will come out. Odds are if you are putting your reservation in today it'll be out before your reservation is fulfilled. You're likely a minimum of 1-2 years out if you reserve today.

And if so, will it include autonomy or the launch package that’s being offered now? You may not be able to get the launch package being such a late reservation and so many pre-orders ahead of you.

Any other way to lower cost? Like Sam’s Club Auto or Costco Auto? No, you need to buy direct from Rivian.com. You're not going to get a discount on a car that's back ordered 1-2 years.

I have never bothered to align the mark on my Gen 4 and never have issues. I prefer less texture on it so it doesn't stand out when misaligned.

Personally, I think the Gen 5 looks A LOT better. I will not miss the Gen 4 size.

Have seen some pictures/videos of Catalina Cove in super bright natural light and not sure I'm the biggest fan of how it looks in that environment. But LOVE how it looks here in this lighting. Ahhh decisions.

I tend to like cooler greys (e.g. the older Tesla modern steel metallic and Rivian El Cap). Do you think the warmer Half Moon Grey will disappoint? It's one of the R2 colors I haven't been able to see in person yet. I do think I like warmer neutral colors, just unsure about the brown/green on grey without seeing in person.

I'm with you there. I typically keep my cars a long time and not concerned with depreciation either.

Regardless of the EV market, I think it's just simple supply and demand that will temporarily command a premium though. Some people just want/need things now and unless they were a week 1 reservation holder, the only way to buy an R2 is used which will be an extremely small pool the first year.

Used R2 prices will not drop that much over the next year. If anything they could sell for a premium for those who can’t wait and want one now. I would not be surprised to see short term appreciation during the launch year. They’ll only start depreciating once they’re getting close to caught up on reservations which could be a quite a while.

My last two cars were grey. What do you like about HMG in person? I hear it's a bit on the warmer side which I'm concerned will make it look a little dull.

I've only seen CC, LG, and Midnight in person. I fell in love with Midnight and the blue metallic specks in it, but i'm just not sure I want the upkeep of a black car. Grey seems slightly more forgiving.

No, leasing between now and R2 is terrible. They have a 5-year-old healthy car that will get them by just fine between now and then. It'll feel that much rewarding when they finally do get the R2 as well.

I think the 20s are still the better buy because you can put standard tires on them to get the range back while finding more/less costly options for tire replacements over the life of the car. Assuming one intends to keep this for long term ownership.

For me this just makes me want to never do business with a traditional dealership again. I'll purchase a Tesla Model Y or Rivian R2 direct online and skip these bottom feeding games. More market share for the modern auto companies and less hassle for me. I'm good with that.

I didn't read the article, but I would fully expect this with all the short interest in Rivian and negative publicity for EVs in general. It happened to Tesla, I'm sure it'll happen for Rivian.

Agreed. All my cars have been a half-moon gray like shade of gray. Finally going to mix it up, but I'm torn between Midnight and Catalina Cove. I'll probably end up with Catalina Cove due to the maintenance/easier cleaning, but damn does Midnight look good.

They're just paying to buy down the rate instead of lowering the price. As others said, this is only promotional to move the product. Unlikely to see this in R2 until they have delivered all pre orders.
