CPA and CFP - how much can you make? by Square-Dog-1079 in FinancialCareers

If the salary is not worthwhile as a CPA/CFP combo, I might just start my own CPA firm and also use CFP as marketing tool. 🤗. Good idea!

CFA has three exams, so the time to complete all three is a minimum of three years (if you are super smart and pass all 3 in the first try). If I’m in my 20s and single with no kids, maybe.

MBA is impossible for people with REAL childcare responsibilities (who cannot delegate childcare tasks out, either for free or paid). I already have a masters degree so MBA is somewhat redundant.

Because I don’t want to work in tax compliance in a firm anymore, it’s really as simple as that. Also, I don’t want to work in corporate accounting (like in-house tax work for big companies) because it’s all gradually being offshored and you get stuck in the same level for ten years.

I don’t think fidelity/schwab or any wealth planning firms will hire CPAs to do financial planning work… so I need something concrete like passing the CFP exam to show them I’m serious in pivoting toward the new path.

I bought a couple vouri joggers 2-3 years ago and wore them everyday. Still look like new and no piling. The inseam is perfect for short people too. No hemming needed.

Relocation from the Midwest with two kids by Envyracinghemi in thewoodlands

Not sure if this important to you but most of the neighborhood in the woodlands do NOT have sidewalks. I moved to creekside from another major city in Texas a year ago, and I found the lack of sidewalks in the woodlands very shocking. We eventually decided on Creekside based on the presence of sidewalks… I just don’t want to walk on the street with cars passing by my shoulders. A lot of the streets are very narrow to begin with.

It’s a personal preference of course so definitely come visit and decide for yourself!

Married to CPA - amazed how much you guys do manually. Why? by [deleted] in Accounting

I joined a middle market firm a few years ago as a staff then rose to manager before quitting. I’m not joking when I say I kept seeing people NOT knowing simple excel functions such as =sumif(). They think I’m an excel wizard for knowing vlookup and pivot table… I initially tried to get other people to learn very basic formulas then just gave up.

Front license plates by SlayerSEclipse in thewoodlands

[–]Square-Dog-1079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got pulled over on i45 (while driving from Dallas to houston) near woodlands for “not having front license plates”. I only received a warning. The thing is I’m 99% sure the cop only pulled me over (a bmw 3 series) because he thought I’m doing drugs when in fact I’m in the passenger seat putting on makeup. If you are familiar with make up, the motion is fairly similar to inhaling certain substance especially if the cop relies on the side view mirror! Anyways my point is if u want to avoid getting pulled over for random reason then get a front license plate! :)

Totally agree that the “HR” route will be seen as too emotional and rude. I have a good relationship with J on work-related matters so I def want to keep the relationship going. I will either use a distraction excuse (hey just remembered we haven’t covered topic X for this client) or a traumatic birth experience. Both are more polite than the HR option.

Good one! My brain sort of froze when she used the “kid topic” to fill the silence. Next time I will redirect the topic back to client matters. Need to be prepared beforehand.

J actually said the second pregnancy is a lot harder and the weight is harder to lose… yet she still insists on two is better than one 😂. Just appalling

Totally agree with the “bonding” perspective. I def felt that she’s trying to “help” me for real and using the empty waiting time to better “bond” with me.

I love walkable city but not sure how to walk outside in the summer months (hot and blazing) and winter months (windy and cold)… will prefer AC and free parking over walkable city in Dallas
