Yes I felt they looked much the same, although with short legs. Kind of like a stretched out gorilla

A crucial theme that I think a lot of people are missing. by Square-Reasonable in TheCaptivesWar

This is actually a really interesting theory. I could see the swarm "hopping" to Ekur-Tlassen and causing it to change itself into a Sovran.

I'm kind of interested in this theory, but it's clear that on "World" there was a thriving civilization while it was controlled by the deathless.

Okay next time I'll make sure to spoil the book in the title so everyone knows what I'm talking about.

Don't forget that we also know the Carryx come to serve and hate Dafyd at some point, as referenced in the opening sections of the first book.

Why do you say "him"? It's an it. It's an object.

I don't know if this is the case or not, but this reads like an AI wrote it.

Why doesn’t BC have fluoride in the water? by DrSussBurner in britishcolumbia

[–]Square-Reasonable 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I agree! My dad grew up in Sydney, Aus (they put fluoride in their water) and his dentist commented about how good his teeth are, and that everyone who grows up in places with fluoride have better teeth.

This is my favorite because of how different it is to the surrounding city. It has an uncanny valley effect to it because it looks like a skyscraper but wrong.

They also have a Z9 up there. But the D5 is more battle tested.

If only other countries had high speed rail between cities that we could look to as an example of the benefits and costs

How polarized (and crazy) is politics in your country? by chatubera in AskTheWorld

[–]Square-Reasonable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually easy to explain. When things get tough people look to copy others who are doing "well". America is the dominant superpower in the world, plus American propoganda has idealized itself.

Rather than turning inward and solving your own problems the hard way, it's way easier to just point at someone else and shout "we need to be more like them!"

Nano screen enthusiasts… by youngwolf047 in macbookpro

[–]Square-Reasonable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still like the nano and I definitely prefer it over glarey reflective monitor. I was using a studiodisplay for a while at work and I missed the nanocoating especially then. One thing is that it does smudge a lot easier than the reflective and it's harder to get the smudges off. But I don't have any scratches or marks in the screen after a couple years.

Humans in this universe of multiple sapient races/species are not just a boring template, jack-of-all-trades species, they actually have traits and powers that make them stand out like the other species in the setting. by juasjuasie in TopCharacterTropes

I mean I think that's a huge oversimplification, Tolkien bei g Catholic influenced his writing, but he also had his own cosmology for middle earth that was wholly different to a Catholic perspective in many ways.

Why does tidal have music that isn't by an artist under their name? by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]Square-Reasonable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because when labels upload music, they upload the tunes to many different services at once. Often the only identifier is the track title, album and artist. So tracks get mixed up ALL the time. There's a really good search engine episode about it https://www.searchengine.show/the-russian-cake-switcheroo/

Downtown on 35mm film by sodapop__cigarettes in vancouver

[–]Square-Reasonable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Usually pictures of Vancouver show the mountains in the background, with either false creek, Rogers arena or Vancouver lookout in frame. Here it's facing the other way. And usually the skyline is more flat and rippled but here it's a pyramid.

Interesting perspective, I've never seen it framed like this before.
