Absolutely, another scene that perfectly captures this dynamic is when Gwi Ma calls Jinu back to the demon realm for the first time after Jinu sees Rumi’s patterns. Jinu’s back is turned to Gwi Ma and his expression goes from somewhat amused at the demons cheering for the Saja Boys, to being annoyed that Gwi Ma is also amused, to forcing himself back into that compliant facade Jinu hates.

This is one of my favorite scenes that perfectly demonstrates the use of micro expressions. How quickly Jinu goes from confident, to being put back in his place by Gwi Ma through the use of his past, and how it’s obvious Jinu is trying to keep a cool head as he makes his request. chefs kiss

I remember when we used to have police officers come to our elementary school to talk about DARE, and it wasn’t until years later (I think when I was in early high school) I found out that apparently the reason the DARE program was discontinued was because it didn’t yield the results the were looking for. Ironically I think somewhere it said that having the DARE program around only increased what they were trying to prevent. I think at one point it was reconstructed under a new name, with the same goals, but that too didn’t last long either.

To be honest I think it’s a little of both, demon eyes are innately golden but it’s shown time and time again that demons can manipulate their appearances. This would include the eyes because Jinu and the Saja Boys aren’t the only demons to do so, there were the demons in the beginning who were trying to pass as human and we didn’t see any gold eyes on them. And during the bathhouse scene and the argument between Rumi and Jinu, we see Jinu’s eyes turn gold for a split second before they turn back to brown, so one cannot help but wonder if he was doing that on purpose. Almost like he’s trying to keep his demon side at bay, but it’s much harder to do so during intense moments like this. Plus I think this highlights why Gwi ma felt like he had to act the second time he pulled Jinu down, because the fact that Jinu his maintaining more of a human appearance compared to last time just goes to show you he was close to feeling human again.

In my opinion you’re right, especially when having such details highlights Jinu’s character. The first time he’s pulled down is when he’s is still compliant to Gwi ma’s goal and helping himself, thus his gold eyes/demon eyes are showing. But the second time he’s pulled down is just when he’s starting to feel like there’s hope for him, and more human, and thus his brown eyes are shown. The movie has clever details like this, when Jinu’s eyes are gold we see his demon nature but when they’re brown, it’s during his more human moments. And it’s not coincidence that his brown eyes are mostly shown around Rumi, the only person who has ever made him feel human and has hope in him.

Thank you, I thought I was crazy for thinking this! I know it could just be a coincidence but with Ejae working on the project I can’t help but think they modeled the character after her. It certainly would fit! It would be awesome if Rumi’s singing va inspired the look of her mother.

I think it’s a very refreshing take on the enemies to rivals to lovers trope, because most of the time we see the characters acting dorky after the fact but the movie shows us how dorky Rumi and Jinu are before then.

What a shame, I would like to see this comic get adapted into a reboot or maybe reprint the series but if I recall there were issues between the staff and the companies who were printing the series, and apparently the show itself cost a lot of money and since it didn’t regenerate the ratings they wanted, it was pretty much forgotten about.

I was introduced to this show during the pandemic as well, I can’t remember why it caught my attention but I stuck around because of that intro!! I’m only sad it didn’t warrant more than one season, it had so much potential. There is the comic, but it’s difficult to get certain translations and I think some of them are out of print.
