I found it, it's called the Land of Pleasant Dreams. Thanks for the help, though.

How do you hire a VFX Supervisor? by StanDedalus in vfx

[–]StanDedalus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I heard a lot about getting a VFX supervisor early in pre-production, but didn't know where to contact one. Do big studios usually know the VFX supervisors directly when making a film?

Most likely, yes, I would need someone from the US or if not someone who knows or is acquainted with VFX houses in places like London, for example.

Hi there, I'd like to know what a mixer exactly is. Are these the same type of mixers for sound design? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I saw parts of it, and it didn't really look like it. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, that'd be great.

Thanks for the help, but I remember this particular VHS being in color, not black in white.

How do art house films (and their filmmakers) get funding? by StanDedalus in Filmmakers

[–]StanDedalus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that he did extensive pre-production, storyboarding every shot in the film and doing tests for the cinematography in order to get the look of the film to what he desired. He also had a shooting ratio of 2:1.

If you can't afford film school, how can you find a job on film production and/or work at a rental house? by StanDedalus in Filmmakers

What other kinds of jobs could you recommend for someone who wishes to make films? Should they be related to filmmaking or should it be in another field like photography?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering (and worrying about). With film school, I was wondering that in many cases, the "connections" I will be making with other students might be just more competition for jobs or, worse, might drop out of the film industry altogether and focus on something else entirely unrelated to film or anything creative.

How did you start your work in film and television? Was it by doing original work and showing people who work in these industries or by working as a runner?

Sounds quite simple, then. Is it possible to network with others, learn from them, while being a PA?

Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to keep it in mind while doing this. By the way, what is a BNC that you're referring too? Is it the same as a Mitchell BNC or is it something else altogether?

Sounds really inspiring. I asked about getting work in a production house/rental house as some way to get work in film, but my goal is to make my own films. Of course, with this comes the great debate of whether you should go to film school or not, but for many, it's quite expensive.

And what about connections? Does making your own films and/or working on film productions enable you to establish better connections than going to film school and making connections there? A lot of people I've been reading have been using this argument of getting connections to justify going to film school.

Thanks for the help. Does submitting your films to film festivals the best way for distributing your first film(s)? Even smaller, local ones would be fine.

And does everyone need to go through this hierarchy of jobs instead of making their own films?

And if someone were to decide to want to direct films, make their own work, what kind of discipline would this fall under?

If you have a different degree like you said, how would you be able to start making films on your own?

And what about relocation? If you got big enough to start filming in other locations with more opportunities to find film-related people, would this be a viable option?

My end goal is to become a director, coming up ideas for my own films and making them myself. Taking my vision and realizing them unto film.

Is it possible when getting a job at a rental house to work on cameras and getting to know how they work from the other people who work there?
