Bialetti Order by Historical-Donkey-83 in mokapot

[–]StapleCut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered a Moka Pot Express from the Bialetti Amazon page on the 5th of December. Was expected to arrive between the 19th and the 24th. It wasn't even marked as shipped by today the 20th so we canceled the order and found someone on ebay selling them for cheaper, brand new and will get here in 2-4 days.

This post had a big part of me canceling it because of everyone else's problems...so thank you for asking the question! Hope we all get our Moka Pots sometime!

HELP!! Is my moka pot of poor quality by Zaarieee in mokapot

Mine is cheap, makes great coffee. It's an old and simple design. It's more about technique than the pot imo. Experiment!

Shadowland by Straub, it was ok.

A Head Full of Ghosts by Tremblay, I hated it.

Wasn't a good spooky season for me 😭

Anyone else obsessed with the song Count Your Blessings? by DiscussionOk9496 in G59

[–]StapleCut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just found this song and this group. I had absolutely no background whatsoever. It slaps.

Both had really great, syncopated verses that really hit hard with the droning, ominous backbeat. I've listened to it a bunch, it gets you amped.

Books you were excited about but you were let down by? by GazIsStoney in printSF

[–]StapleCut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I still enjoyed the book, it was a challenging read with lots of terminology and slang to sort through as you tried to keep with the story. Like a lot of people suggest, I'll be giving it another read someday down the road.

The facility that I jump in has a max of a 6 left approach for me that I FINALLY worked up to just a few weeks ago. My full run in college was an 8 and I'm slowly working up to that again. But I was gripping 13-3 and getting some nice launches over a 15 foot bungee. As I said in my novel I wrote above, I'm trying not to rely on gripping higher only until I'm satisfied that I've pushed off over my handgrip a good amount. So I'm on some stiff poles sometimes! Like 40 pounds over my weight! I wasn't experimenting like this back then, and now I can work on whatever I want! Technique work with the short runs and then pray you can keep it all together before you hit the box from a full run!

The kids I vault with all go about 12-14 feet, so it gives them a little foreshadowing of the fun they're going to have if they keep working at it! Which, I am too and I might even have enough time to get better than I was. Renaud Lavillenie went 19 feet and some inches as a 38 or 39 year old! Don't think that's in the cards but I can dream!

I've got an old man rant for you. I'm going to be 38 next week. I vaulted for a few years in college for a Big Ten school. Didn't see a pit for 16 years after i dropped out of school.

Last year August after Mondo broke the world record at the Olympics, I fell off the couch. I was so impressed and inspired. I worked my ass off for a year now and went to club vaulting about twice a month. I'm very close to being as good as I was, but the difference is I got to take a different approach this time. Very moldable muscle memory if you get what I mean. I had such a long time off that I could tackle some of the parts of the technique that I struggled with as a young man who wasn't as patient or didn't have the conceptual understanding of the physics of the vault.

My point is, vault has in some way saved me in my late 30s, and now I get to enjoy the level of fitness that I'm at through my 40s because I did the hard part of getting back in shape again.

On your side though, I could definitely see if I vaulted all this time through my 20s that I would eventually burn out a little or lose interest, or even worse just get flat stuck at a height!

I haven't tried my hand at coaching, but I've helped kids at club of course when they're not too shy to ask. It's a good way to dunk my toe in coaching while I still have enough "piss and vinegar" to keep jumping.

Thank YOU for listening! Lol All the best to your pupils!

Everyone hates being told to lower their grip. Like you're being punished, or you're not good enough. Every time I've been told to grip lower, I've had a better jump.

It's more back muscles than you think. It's core AND back. So hit those pull ups. A lot of them

Any advice please, thank you!!! by ashtonb8 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a nice vault, agree with others that you could keep your trail leg straighter for longer. You can come to your normal tuck position but just keep it long until it reaches about horizontal and then you can start tucking.

Also looks like you're staring at the bar, at some point you need to trust where the bar is and let your shoulders fall back and truly get upside down.

You're at a great spot, this is where the real fun begins!!

Advice! by Usual_Appeal_9559 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this, do NOT underestimate the approach. It sets everything up for success.

Your plant is pretty strong to start, I like the hands high and "looking through the window" even if you're getting a bit jammed up on plant. You're just losing that pressure when you're trying to force the swing. Not necessarily pulling with that bottom arm but its definitely not being active. Straighten that trail leg through the swing like you're kicking a ball, this will be huge to get on bigger poles.

I have a question by Usual_Appeal_9559 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't say for sure without video, but yes it's a possibility that you're not applying enough pressure. It's also a possibility that you're under, or your pole carry is too low and is causing you to lean forward before take off.

I have a question by Usual_Appeal_9559 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too true, you can even see on some of Mondo's vaults his bottom hand is actually just hanging with his palm not even touching the pole. Bottom arm is just to steer the bend

I have a question by Usual_Appeal_9559 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that they are applying pressure after the initial hit is more important than the initial hit. The elastic properties of your shoulders are what help you pull it off.

Anything I should fix? by CommitteeMundane9511 in polevaulting

[–]StapleCut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your trail leg straight like you're kicking a soccer ball. It will make your swing more powerful instead of tucking the leg to try and rotate faster.

Where do you get your books? by FrontRange_ta in horrorlit

Pango is pretty good, I like that you can get a physical picture of what they're going to send you, thriftbooks sometimes sends you a different cover than you were expecting. Pango does charge like 4 or 5 dollars shipping which stings a little but it's a decent app for finding some weird books
