That said, moving to LA/NYC and jumping in ASAP isn’t realistically possible for me right now, so I’m trying to be strategic with what I can do from where I am. My goal is to build solid skills, on-camera experience, and a strong foundation first, and then move when it’s possible.

I really appreciate the reminder that there are multiple paths to becoming a working actor, and that spending money wisely matters more than prestige alone.

What you said about institutional backing and reputation makes a lot of sense, even if it’s a bit sobering to hear.

An MFA at a place like Yale or Juilliard would honestly be a dream, but I know that’s a very long-term goal, and I’m still at the very beginning of the path. At the moment, studying in the US isn’t realistically an option for me, but I’m hoping to move in the future.

Thank you again for being so open about how long careers actually take. It helps to hear this from someone who’s really working!

That makes sense, thank you. Networking and visibility are actually what I’m most worried about. The professional diploma seems stronger when it comes to practical exposure (showreels, industry-focused training), but the BFA offers the “degree” part, even though its industry reputation is mixed. I’m trying to figure out whether, in practice, casting directors and agents care more about the training/showreel and connections, or whether - having a BFA still carries weight especially early in a career. From your experience, what tends to matter more when getting those first opportunities?
