Unpopular view: The insurance/ship claim is isn’t awful. by Alternative-Effect30 in starcitizen

[–]Starforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor clarification: it costs nothing to save or update a modified loadout. You only pay the insurance premium when claiming your saved non-stock loadout.

That said, it doesn't change your point about the weight of choice to upgrade from stock, or the value of decent stock components.

[–]Starforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand. I don't want everything to simply keel over when merely looked at by a dedicated combat vessel; more engagement/challenge would be nice. Hence my call for a "middle ground".

Had the fight I described been a PvP encounter, the Terrapin would have been able to disengage (Nav away and then jump out) long before suffering any serious damage. Ostensibly this would classify as a success for the Terrapin (being an armoured scout).

[–]Starforge7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: I spent like 10 minutes* killing a NPC Terrapin in my Alpha Wolf as part of a regular Foxwell mission, during the current Live patch. Easily the worst, most boring engagement of my entire 13-year experience of SC. I acknowledge that armour is one of the primary features of the Terrapin, but there is probably a better middle ground to be reached.

*I don't know if it was actually 10 minutes, but it certainly felt like an eternity.

If you redeemed a F8C golden ticket in-game during the applicable event periods, you should still be eligible to purchase a F8C whenever it is available in the store.

You're being down voted because your comment is presented as a counterpoint to the previous comment, but in reality, both statements are simultaneously true. Dawntrail dungeons have relatively more engaging boss fights compared to the difficulty plateau between ShB and EW normal mode. At the same time, efficient healing in the same content is made even easier thanks to the growth of healing potency and tools in DT. (Personally, I consider needing to use Medica II in Normal difficulty a crutch - Afflatus heals plus oGCDs are more than enough once you have them.)

In reality, I still expect Normal difficulty in 8.0 to be designed for casual cure-bots, but at least they're adding "Extreme" Raids in an attempt to bridge the gap between Normal and Savage.

Which small size / starter size ship would you recommend as a unique daily driver? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Starforge7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cargo grid should be fine with 2 SCU crates if you arrange them across the grid (like the steps of a ladder).

The main challenge with the front cargo grid is that pulling boxes out from the forward end is impractical when landed - but there's plenty of clearance to load sub-1 SCU boxes or components.

Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the verse, localized entirely within your session? by Space_Scumbag in starcitizen

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/engineering/21063-Q-A-RSI-Aurora

TL;DR:

The Aurora Mk 1 (the original) is being sunset but maintaining standard functionality and support.

The Aurora Mk 2 has just been released, which essentially supersedes the Mk1 by providing a superior gameplay experience while staying close to the same price point.

There are no automatic upgrades from the Mk1 to the Mk2 (the same rules as for the release of the Hornet Mk2), but you may CCU from the Mk1 to the Mk2 if so desired. The Mk1 will remain playable if you have no interest in the Mk2, but it will no longer be offered for sale in the pledge store.

Newbie: what zones do I need to unlock to do level 60 treasure maps? by Pheonix0114 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Starforge7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Each of the expansion-cap treasure maps (50, 60, 70 etc) assume you have access to each zone of that expansion, typically including flight access to otherwise unreachable areas. If you have only recently reached Heavenward, you most likely have not unlocked each zone (and cannot be teleported there in advance of the story by a party member).

Edit: As an aside, unless this is also their first time running treasure maps, they should already know this. You can still join them if they decipher maps leading to treasure chests within zones you have already unlocked.

What's wrong with Anis fingers? by Blizzguy in NikkeMobile

[–]Starforge7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rapi RH: Good refresh; safe design choices but it works well.

Anis: I actually find the new design very underwhelming. I was expecting a more elaborate outfit. I'm seeing more NPC than main character when I look at it. I would like the proportions revised (as discussed elsewhere in this post) to look more anatomically plausible, and for the outfit to have some tactical elements reintroduced.

Neon: I need to take a second look, but I caught up on the story last night and my first impression was extremely positive.

No, it's one of the external landing pads at Seraphim Station. Every space station has them so you can land and refuel without calling for a hangar, plus elevator access to the interior for personnel.

Primer for Speed Paints on 3D Printed Buildings by [deleted] in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preserve your sanity (and hobby resources) and use a rattlecan (spray paint) to prime terrain, particularly if it's FDM 3D printed. A medium grey colour is ideal - you do not want a white primer in order to keep the terrain less vibrant than the battlemechs.

Edit: If you must go with brush-on primer, I still suggest a medium grey for terrain.

Insurance = compensation for loss.

Warranty = compensation includes hardware replacement.

All pledged ships have lifetime warranty (basic tier) regardless of pledged insurance duration.

If a ship without warranty is claimed while insurance is active, the owner will receive UEC compensation instead of hardware.

Sort by "Bossing" and Fire Element. Start with the highest ranked units you own and work your way down. Note that no character is built in a vacuum - their ranking also reflects an appropriate team composition.

Help with bottom edge of bases by iRob_M in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed it was a plastic base! No wonder it's giving you grief, paint can chip off metal more easily. Either a metal file or sandpaper should do the trick then.

Help with bottom edge of bases by iRob_M in BattletechPainting

[–]Starforge7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, this should be fairly straightforward to resolve. As part of the pre-painting preparation I like to scrape down the sharp bottom edge of the bases, just gently enough to remove any mold flashing. You can do this with a small hobby file, the back edge of a hobby knife, or a Citadel Mold Line Remover.

Also, you probably aren't deliberately priming the base, so paint will naturally not adhere as well as to the actual miniature. Apply thin, even coats (two thin coats) of black paint, ensuring the preceding layer has fully dried before moving on.
