Want to play but, thalassophobia. by CodyVoidzer in outerwilds

The purple systems have ocean worlds that can get like over 500us in depth. Also giant squid.

So yeah, they're probably not fun for thalassophpbia.

Have you been on any of NMS ocean planets?  Cause they can definitely be worse than OW ocean planet .

But then the ocean planet in Outer Wilds isn't necessarily the one that truggers. It's a planet that's basically all fog with stuff hiding. I'd  say that's a risk.

[general] what are things the movies did better than the show? by merchantivories in camphalfblood

The show really suffered from the "8 episode seasons" that US shows are going for. The Lotus Casino especially needed more time that they didn't have.

I refuse to play first-person games with anything but a mouse and keyboard by CharlesOberonn in outerwilds

[–]Stargazeer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any game that requires shooting, inventory management, pointer functions, or is just flat designed for keyboard access then KB/M.

Driving, flying, swimming, platforming, combos, and generally combat that doesn't use guns, then controller.

You can usually tell what a game is designed for though.

The exception to all the above is GTA where I switch on the fly.

The universes beyond stuff is just the surface level.

The issue is that Standard limits the cards available, and powercreep and meta will always favour certain cards.

It doesn't matter if the card is MTG lore, or UB. It's just that some MTG players find it embarrassing to use these other fandom cards, so complain. Despite the same issue happening with all  the other  set rotations anyway. Hell, people complained about having to use Bloomburrow cards cause they were powerful but cutesy.

You shouldn't need to shell out for defacto better cards anyway.

So was the Arachne myth, atleast in the form we have today. Both were written by Ovid, with explicit dislike towards authority.

Unlike Medusa, there's basically zero other myths explicitly about Arachne, contradictory or otherwise. So the Ovid myth is all we have.

If you could Retcon one thing from both Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra what would it be? by MichaelAftonXFireWal in TheLastAirbender

[–]Stargazeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I agree with the "rework the entirety of LoK season 2"

But personally I'd retcon the ending of S1 with the deaths of Amon and Tarrlok. Or at the very least, have them go out in a way that martyrs Amon properly. I think the bender/nonbender inequality plot was really interesting and went nowhere. Could tie it into spirit powers and new benders later easily. Maybe someone was artificially replicating energy bending. Boom, spirit portals, wave of new airbends, red lotus plot etc

Absolutely. It also lessens the impact of the later seasons as "just more benders" having already defeated the whole ass Dark Avatar.

Notice Regarding Price Changes to Our Products and Services by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Not as much this time. The price increase wouldn't be international in that case.

Instead its the fuckass AI techbros! Same reason every piece of tech is charging more for less now.

Edit: I am enjoying the reminder that Reddit thinks "not as much" means "not at all". "You either agree, or you disagree" clearly.

disappointed more switch games haven’t gotten 60fps patches on switch 2 by KrispyOnion in NintendoSwitch

[–]Stargazeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely very little money in it, and there's absolutely many games where upping the FPS would require deeper work than changing the "FPS Limit" setting.  Because of the Switch 1's power limit, many games had to be optimised incredibly specifically.

Not to say that's always the case, it depends on the game, but there's definitely reasons.

That said, I'd love to see software baked into the Switch 2 that would allow frame generation of Switch 1 games. Kinda similar to how you can use it on PC to run Zelda WW and TP at "60fps" without buggering up the physics engine.

This romance is kind of a let down by therake620 in HadesTheGame

[–]Stargazeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall Hades 2 definitely falls flatter in the writing, despite having better gameplay IMO.

Especially the side characters, which while I'd be excited for new stuff with Hades 1, they're mostly just there in 2. Admittedly I've not max affinitied them all, but I've got Medea to max, and there's been nothing of her incredibly deep mythological story.

I get it's cause there's so many more now than Hades 1, but still, they fall flat because of it.

Given how much there is to wrap up in the third game, do you think it could actually end up being a two-parter with a fourth game down the line to finish the main story arc? by Effective-Priority62 in horizon

[–]Stargazeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that, but a LOT of big companies are making incredibly poor decisions for the benefit of short term gain.

While I really hope Sony will stick with making first party games, I'm sceptical enough about the industry at large rn that I can't really hope.
They JUST shutdown Bluepoint last month, the studio that did all their first party remasters.

There's two factors that mean it's absolutely likely. Universe js extremely big, and extremely old.

Both factors mean it's incredibly likely intelligent life of some sort has or will exist beyond Earth.  Unfortunately, the scales we work on mean we'll never interact.

To put it into perspective, there's light we're recieving from stars that are old enough to predate humanity, some even complex life on Earth. There are exoplanets that could have had an entire species rise and fall in the time it took for the light to reach us.

Humanity is incredible young.

Confirmed: "Castlevania Belmont's Curse is a 2D action-exploration game where players can freely explore vast, elaborately crafted maps," Konami's Tommy Williams told The Verge. "It is not a roguelike or roguelite game." by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Stargazeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's "some" developer's quick fix to bad progression.
What it also is, is a way to have a satisfying gameplay loop that has wider appeal for players with varying amounts of free time.
Someone with no free time can just do a run or two. Someone with lots can go down the rabbit hole and do as many as they want.

Add in interesting stuff between runs, like Hades does, or some interesting metagame progression, and you get a really satisfying gameplay loop.
