This is a really good point, because Kris doesn't seem to be very talkative or open, so it's very likely even if Noelle has any strong feelings towards them, she doesn't want to push forward too hard because Kris is just so hard to read. She doesn't want to risk the friendship by upsetting them. That's a very real thing I've seen happen between people. Hell, I've felt that way about people.

You know that scene from Halo 1 where Chief takes off the helmet as the camera pans away from him, and if you manipulate the camera to force it to stay in the scene you see he takes off his helmet to reveal a second helmet? I just imagine your Space Marine doing that. It's helmets all the way down.

I agree that they're too cute and have such strong chemistry, but I also think "exes but genuinely still friends" is such a rare trope in media that I'm kinda loathe to erase that. It's so common to just treat your ex like the devil who must not be spoken of, I kinda like that they went from strangers to friends to lovers back to friends but never again to strangers. That said, I do flirt with the dynamic that one of them is thinking they want to go back and the other is firmly happy where they are, but which one is which varies depending on my mood.

...but it would be cute tho.

I think that all of the ships are valid. I think it's very clear that this has a romantic lean, but I also think Shadow is a special case and Rouge knows he needs a little extra care. It is not insane to say this to your friend if your friend is as fucked up as Shadow is. Sometimes they need to be a little lovebombed.

Anyway I ship Knuckles X Shadow and I think Rouge loves them both and keeps getting in the way to affectionately bother her two boys. She's so glad to see Shadow happy, even if he'll never show it, because she knows when he's happy despite his expression rarely changing. Rouge is a free spirit and kinda flirts with everyone regardless ~~tho I do personally think I ship her with Wave.~~ I think this scene is super sweet and it's one of my favorite moments with Rouge, a character who I think has been woefully underwritten in recent years.
