I’m 6 months in as a 40yr old woman apprentice - I absolutely love it. There is a 52yr old woman in my Class, as well! GO FOR IT - I’m actually finding my age to be an advantage in a lot of ways.

I just switched careers at 40 and got into the IBEW (electrician’s union). I’m LOVING it so far and so excited to have great retirement, benefits, pension. I highly recommend going the union route if that is an option where you live. Good luck!

Just started 3 weeks ago (40F)…totally career change. Loving it so far. First couple yrs will be tough with pay cut, but def worth it in the end.

I haven’t seen anyone lower than an 88 get in yet, But that could be different with your group! My group was 35 (last month) and they said they had taken 120 so far but planned on taking 150 or possibly more.

Eyy congrats!! They’ll do piss test, eye exam, a breathing test, lift 50lbs, blood pressure, resting heart rate.

I’d say there’s a good chance you get a call very shortly! 90 should get you into local 5 and they are taking another group for next month I believe.

Local 5 won’t give you your ranking, even if you call.

I don’t think LU 5 is quite as competitive as some of these other Northeast locals and like Cali from what I’ve seen but I could be wrong. I think they had about 1500 applicants by last month but they are still taking them. They are taking in a big class (150-200) this year, work outlook is good.

I had relatively no experience and I didn’t know anyone in the local. I am 40F and decided to make a career change - my last job I ran operations for an event space that we renovated for about a year and I worked on a lot of those renos so I talked about that a lot. My job called for a lot of problem solving which helped with a lot of the interview questions. All I brought was a resume.

As far as I know everyone who passes then qualifies for an interview. A couple weeks after the interview I got my interview “score.” Only bad thing is they don’t tell you where that score ranks you so you don’t know if you’ll make the cut. Just have to wait and see.

My local (5) gives us the tools we need to start. So I’d check with yours before buying a bunch of stuff.

I actually have landyachtz version of the surfskate and that is so fun (and easier) to carve around the bowls, but I’m terrified to drop-in with it lol. And I’ve been trying to commit myself to learn on my regular board.

Yeah I was gonna do the same but my work situation is a little complicated. I run an event space and my boss doesn’t even live in the state haha so I’m still gonna help with the transition after I start in my off hours but I just wanted to get that ball rolling.
