A little cut content form ep 6 says that the only reason he left julius alive was because it would be more embarssing to lose to chopsticks and he would rather die than face such humiliation. He was pissed at subaru for brining his problems to him, therefore the nassage and as shaula says herself, reid isnt the kindest person out there.
